My 7.5.0.47 was working fine until recently. Now it freezes on every 5th or 6th move or so. Then vw will not come up until I restart.

I have 7.5 on my laptop where it is still working fine.

My problem is on my desktop dell. windows xp. ser pack 2, 3.00 ghz. I have been away from the desktop for 8 months. Before it was working fine. Now problems. I removed the program and reloaded. Twice. Did not help.

I changed my performance setting to adjust for best performance. I dont know how to change my vitual memory settings. Changing the performance seemed to help but it is still freezing.

Help.

Get rid of malware/spyware on your computer, and defrag your hard drive.

No v9 will not magically fix whatever is causing the freeze up issue.
You say you haven't used that pc in 8 months. Have others been using it? Have they been installing/removing any hardware software? Have you tried doing a "repair" of your EMC 7.5 install?

If you think it'll help...

Virtual memory can be changed by...Control panel>System properties>Advanced

At the bottom click on the "change" button.

good luck

No. It has been sitting here while I was away. I am not sure what a "repair" is, but I reloaded the program twice after removing. It didn't do any good.

???

Also, my Norton has spyware in it so that is working.

The one thing that is a major difference recently is that I downloaded the new Norton anti virus when I got home.

This would be a likely suspect then. With Norton Shut off, remove and re-install the software. It is known to cause installs (of many products) not to complete properly.

In addition to what Larry said, spyware and malware is not the same as a virus. Nortong will not block spyware or malware. You need a program such as Ad-Aware, Spybot, or Spy Sweeper.

You can get free versions for the first 2, but Spy Sweeper will cost you some money. I use Spy Sweeper.

I have to agree. If you want to stop the nasties from getting into your "stuff", spysweeper's the way to go. All you need is one popup on some obscure site to ruin your whole day.

And same with NAV. It can be a real pain. Shut it down. Shut it all down...in the options panel, not just the auto protect. It has so many little subprograms so to speak that run, that it's like it's never really "off".

good luck

If you're going to shut down your anti virus program, make certain that you're not connecting to the net.

In fact, my DSL connection slowed down my video editing so much that I now disable my 'always on' connection when I'm video editing.

I shut down Norton AV, reloaded Roxio. The program is still freezing up. What now?

You might want to try a "thorough" reload. Make sure NAV and anything else is as "off" as you can make them.
First uninstall the program. Then search for and delete all files and folders left behind (like you'll find with most any program). Then run a registry cleaner (AMust is fairly decent and is free to download and use for 30 days). Just make sure that you set a system restore point first.

Defrag the HD and reinstall EMC. That's pretty much as clean an install as you can get at this point.

Hopefully this will be all you'll need.

good luck.

My computer guy is on vacation until the 22nd. I have printed your message and will give it to him. I will be back with message after he works on the problem. I also would like to upgrade to version 9 but I think I will wait.
