I need to burn another copy of my DVD project, but from the original DMSA file (not from the image file I that I saved last time I posted here). When I clicked the burn button, I got a message that said "examining devices..." and then it came back with error 80045203. What is that error, and what do I do to get around it?

Here's another problem I'm having. Maybe you can help me. I made several copies of my project using from the ISO file using Disc Copier. They all work fine on set-top DVD players, but the discs hang up almost every DVD software program on every other computer except my own, including Roxio Player. This is extremely frustrating for me because I need to present that program on a laptop computer a week from now, and I only have one disc (the original one I made) that works. I need a backup in case (God forbid!) something happens to that DVD.

Ohhhhh great techno wizards...HAAAAILP! :)

The first problem sounds like a problem communicating with the burner, but I'm not certain what that error code means. Have you visited the website of the DVD Burner manufacturer to see if there are any updates for the burner?

Have you tried burning the original .dmsd (DVD Builder) project to another 'image fie' (.iso) and then burning from that file with Disk Copier? You can change the name of the second 'image file' if you don't want to overwrite the original image file.

The second problem is unusual. What do you mean by 'hang up'? Is the DVD just spinning in the drive, unreadable, or something else? What DVD playing software are you using on the other computers? What DVD playing programs are available on the laptop?

What type of DVDs are you using?

Well, whatever the error was, it went away after I re-installed the DVD burner and its software. The burn process started normally, but it stopped at the end of Step 2. I gave up at that point because I didn't want to spend the time it would take to burn another ISO file. :)

Let's see if I can answer all your questions...

By 'hang up' I mean that the disc spins in the drive and the program freezes so that I have to end it from Task Manager in order to get the disc out again.

My computer has Windows Media Player, Real Player, InterWin DVD and Roxio Player.

On the other computer I've tried Dell Media Experience, Windows Media Player, Real Player and Power DVD. I'm going to load InterWin DVD on that one today and see if it works.

The laptop has Nero Showtime, Windows Media Player and Power DVD. So far it works on Power DVD but not in the others. That laptop is not mine, so I can't load anything else onto it.

I'm assuming that's Cyberlink's Power DVD. That's always worked for me. It's made specifically to play DVDS, but it's always best to check the DVD on the computer in advance if you can. I think Windows Media Player needs another codec to play the DVDs. I don't know anything about the Showtime program.

As for the burn..... please check the DVD burner manufacturer's website for updates. Frequently, they need updates to be able to burn properly to the different types of DVDs. Some manufacturer's also post which type of DVDs will work best with their burners. Sometimes changing the type of DVDs that you use will solve the problem. Also, make certain that your DVD burner can burn to the speed of the DVDS you've purchased.

And, as simple as it sounds, sometimes defragmenting your hard drive will result in a successful burn. Even if Windows tells you that the drive doesn't need defragmenting, do it anyway. This program appears to need a large contiguous space on one part of the hard drive to make the files that are burned to the DVD.
