From what you say, it is Drag to Disk that is causing the problems. Before you installed EMC 9 including drag to disk, did you check that you did not already have a similar packet writing app installed, such as Sonic DLA or other that are often installed in OEM systems? You can only have one such app on your system. If you had one, uninstall it, or you can uninstall Drag to Disk, it appears separately a in Contriol panel, Add/remove programs list.

I've checked and can find nothing like Sonic DLA but don't know how to recognize other packet writing apps. I hate to uninstall Drag to Disk. I want to use it.
Is there a way to recognize other applications that might cause this problem?

Yes, but I messed it up. I think it's there now.

Edit: Ok, probably you were modifying the post the time I read it. I saw your response after my post above.

If you don't find anything like that, then there may have been a problem with the install of Drag to Disk.
In fact, I would not recommend using any packet writing software, despite the apparent convenience of dragging/dropping files. Certainly not for any backup that you want to keep for any length of time. If you peruse the Roxio boards (look at older version boards) you will find lots of posts where people have found that the disks have lost data. Better to use Creator Classic to burn data files to CD or DVD.

You can disable it, and it will start when you want to use it again. My advice would be to NEVER install any packet writing software like D2D, Nero's InCD, or Sonic's DLA. You are playing Russian Roulette when you use those, IMHO, dangerous programs, to back up any important data. The chances are high that you will lose that data on the disc.
