Um, are you trying to burn to a remote burner (IP address needed) or to an external burner on the system you are using?

Ok, so if you have it setup to give you the recorder settings when you click on record, start with that. Click on record. If you have it setup to just burn when you do that, click on the little round green button with a funky gear/star looking thing on it, and then choose recorder settings.
Either way, when you get to the recorder settings page, the top item in there is the selector for the recorder you want to use.

Um, Toast doesnt care what you use so I would assume one of 2 problems:
1) Bad Firewire Cable
2) Some OS issue with firewire - You might try running the latest "Combined Updater" for whatever OS version you are on. The combined updaters are a good way to make sure the OS is running smoothly as opposed to just running the incremental updates.
