I've had to reinstall Windows and applications on my laptop.  Everything has been going fine until I installed Roxio Easy Media Creator 7.0.  Now Windows can't initialize either of my drives (Cd & CD/DVD), error code 37.  I've used Ask RoxAnn and downloaded DriveFixEZ_installed.exe which is supposed to fix this problem but it didn't.  Any ideas how to get my drives back?

You can try removing the drives in System Properties-Device Manager then rebooting.  On reboot, Windows will pick up the drives and hopefully, they'll work correctly.

I tried Paul's solution yesterday and it didn't work.  Windows still came up with an error code 37, unable to initialize device.

I had found Cdanteek's solution at Microsoft's web site but hadn't tried it because error code 37 wasn't listed as an error that this solution would fix.  I tried it this morning though and it worked.

Thanks to both of you.

Did you try to reload the drivers for each of your cd/dvd drives from the manufacturers???  Although windows is suppose to pick them up automatically.  Go to Control Panel, them Systems, then Hardware, then Device Manager.  If your cd/dvd drives show, remove them, then reboot and let windows reinstall them.

Give that a try.

Actually error code 37 Lists the fix, Paul suggested.

Most won't try, (UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values that can cause CD access problems) because they see a different error code.

I'm happy it fixed your problem.
