I would like to back up some of my TV season DVDs. All I seem to be able to do is either burn a DL or compress. Is there a way to either choose favorite episodes or groups of episodes and burn to DVD-R?

You can select specific titles (or even chapters within titles) using the Media Brower. Insert the DVD (not copy-protected, of course) and click the Media button to enter the Media Browser. Choose DVD with the top button. Go to either the title or chapter level with the lower button. Drag what you want to the Toast Video window. Toast extracts the MPEGs from the disc and writes them to the Roxio Converted Items folder. (Toast erases that folder when quitting by default; you can change that in Toast preferences). Now you can add titles or chapters from other discs.
When all is the way you want, burn your disc or choose Save as Disc Image. If you choose the latter you can save an image file that is too big for a single-layer disc. Next you can choose that disc image using the Image File setting in the Copy window and Toast will do additional compression to fit the disc image to fit a single-layer DVD.
Another option you have is to create Divx video from the DVDs. If you have a DVD player that supports playback of Divx discs this may be an attractive option, although the encoding takes quite a while.

I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!
