I checked out the system requirements and read the reviews before I plunked down $100, only to receive a very frustrating afternoon. My system supposedly meets the requirements listed. My video card is a nVidia TnT2 M64/16MB/4x AGP/VGA. All the other system requirements are met and exceeded. I have had no problems with competing products for video editing. I bought ROXIO because it accepts VOB files.

Oh, the error message is "Video card diagnosis failed".

My question is: what is Roxio looking at to make this diagnosis? Registry? Hardware profiles? Bios? What???

My second question: how do I get my money back if I can't get this thing to work?

It's looking at your video card and it's compatibilty with DirectX9c. That is an older card and doesn't look like it supports DirectX 9. Even if it did, the 16MB on it is not enough to do any video work.

You'll need to upgrade to a newer card if you want to use the program.

Thanks for your reply. I thought I met the minimum listed on the box, but apparently not. What would your recommendation be for an inexpensive video card that allows me to use the video editing functions of this software? All I want to do is edit the content of dvd's produced by converters like YesVideo.

Well, depends on what you term inexpensive, but you should be able to find one in the $50 - $60 range that would work. I recently got an Nvidia 6200 (see signature) for approx $50. Check the local stores for specials.

That's definitely the price range. My motherboard (D845PEBT2) won't take more than a 4x AGP card. There are several video cards at Microcenter.com that are 4x (eg. Radeon 9250 128mb AGP4x). My question: short of buying the card an being disappointed, is there any way to determine if this will work with the software?

The RADEON 9200 128MB 8/4x AGP will support DirectX 8.1 (current version is 9.0c).

You have to move up to a 9550-based or better video card to get DirectX 9 support.

Oops, and of course there are some very fine NVidia-based cards out there too.

Most AGP 8X cards are backward compatible with 4X slots.  Just means that the card will run at 4X instead of 8X.  As Lance points out, make sure the card supports DirectX 9 and that should be stated on the box.

Actually, the 9200's do support Direct X 9.  Direct X 9 has to be installed to install the Catalyst drivers.
