I just reformatted my drive and installed VISTA.  I am trying to restore files from my backup performed with the SONIC BackupMyPC included on ROXIO 8.5.  However, VISTA cannot find file sbewin32.exe.  I did not see that file on the original CD nor the upgrade install.

Do you know if any updates will be available to make this program work with the new operating system?  I tried re-instaling it several times to no avail.  I haven't tested the rest of the programs but it looks like most of them work so far.

Thanks for the help.

Roxio has stated that when Vista is finally released, EMC9 will be made compatible with it but I'm not sure it 8 (there is no 8.5 as far as I know) will be made Vista compatible. That wouldn't make sense since 9 is out.

Yeah, that would make sense.  But it's weird that i cannot find sbewin32.exe anywhere.  I haven't found it on the web yes.  Sometimes you find these things out there.  Anyway ... I at least want to try to se if it will even execute, if I can find it first.

sbewin32.exe is the main Backup MYPC program. If it is not on your hard drive, then BUMP never installed correctly. The name is the same as it has been since it was Seagate Backup Exec, SBE.

I gave the install full authority when VISTA asked.  It took a couple of replies to allow it to execute.  But it appeared to have full access.

Not sure why it wouldn't install, but sbewin32.exe is the executable that the Backup MyPC icon should be pointing to. All I can say is make sure when you do a search for this on your C: drive, that you search sub-directories. I have the retail version of Backup MYPC 2006 and it puts sbewin32.exe in
C:\Program Files\Backup MyPC 2006 Deluxe\Backup MyPC Deluxe

OK, here's the deal.  I reformatted once more and re-installed VISTA RC1.  Re-installed EMC8 suite (fully).  Then applied 8.05 update. (rebooting several times just to make sure).
sbewin32 --- nowhere to be found.
Reformatted again and re-installed WIN XP PRO.  Same as above.  The program now works.
So to save anyone the hastle on this forum.  EMC8 BackupMyPC install will NOT execute properly on VISTA RC1.
I'll wait till a good deal comes up for EMC9 and will give it a try again.

**  So if you are planning on playing and testing with VISTA RC1 find some other backup utility.  Let me know too which one works.  L8R.

Honestly, I would be very surprised if there is any backup software that works under Vista, except by accident. Considering Vista hasn't been released yet, and M$ is notorious for changing things that affect other applications, it may be awhile.
