EMC9 won't install.

Well, actually, it did install -- once. But then it wouldn't run. So I read this board and unistalled IE7RC. That didn't help. So I followed Roxio's instructions for a clean install, using MS Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. Wiped out lots of folders and a few registry keys.  I had on some stripped down versions of of Roxio Creator Dell Edition and MyDVD that came with the machine. But they are all gone now.

When I tried to install EMC9 again, it wouldn't accept my CD Key. Very strange, since it took it just fine the first time I attempted to install.

I saw one user coped the files on the disk to his hard drive. But that didn't help me at all. Same messages. It claims the CD Key is not valid.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Mark22

The few people with this problem were told to contact Customer Service for a fix.  There are aware of some problems and I think, have been helpful though no one's reported back.  Give it a try.

This describes my issue to the letter.  First ir would seem to install just fine, but would not start. Determined that the most likely issue was that I was using IE7 RC1, so I uninstalled IE7, cleaned the registry, deleted all foulders and files left over from the installation, re-installed.. and now my CD Key is no longer accepted.
This has been the worst installation  that I have ever had with any software over the last 26 yrs.  Yes, twenty six years.
So, If I call customer support they will resolve this issue? OK, I'll give it a try, this "Roxann" or whatever it's called, has not done any good so far, no one has even responded to my request for assistance.  Yes, I'm frustrated, you would be too at this point.

Yes, customer support has worked with those few who've had this problem.  They will need info from you first I believe to verify the key and then they send you a file to use to fix the key problem.  This info was posted by another poster  and I assume the same would apply to you.

I had the same problem this morning -- first the error when I tried to install and then the message that my CD key was incorrect when I tried to reinstall:

1.  Go to microsoft.com and do a search for Windows Installer.  Look for an entry on Windows Installer 3.1 version 2.

2.  Go to that link, download Windows Installer 3.1 version 2, and install it on your computer.

3.  Close any Roxio applications running.  (Although they did not suggest it, I also disabled all virus and spyware software.)

4.  Click on the following link and select Run:
     http://patches.sonic...ort/emc9rmv.exe

5.  Try re-installing

The installation then went without a hitch.

Good luck!

I am going to leave this for now, but I should warn you, that if you run this on a system that is working properly, it will convert your EMC 9 into a trial version, and I have no way to fix that.

If you have a working EMC9 but run the fix by accident, you will need to reinstall EMc 9 to make it working again...
