If you have 7.5 open DVDInfo Pro. Post your drive info and firmware. DVDInfo Pro is free Google if you have a Roxio version that it is not in.
What brand of media are you using? DVDInfo Pro will give you that info also!

Will it burn dvd - r ?

What happens when you try to burn the dvd - are you getting an error message?

Have you checked the DVD burner manufacturer's website for software updates for your burner?

Have you checked the DVD burner manufacturer's website for software updates for your burner?

Software updates would probably be 3rd party software!

Firmware updates would pertain to the burners write strategy to different media. Drive info and firmware version plus the  media  ID MID is what we are after!

Thanks for your reply....

When i click burn, all looks like it is going well then it just freezes and says 'dvd builder has encountered a problem and will need to close'

Then it closes.

Have checked for software updates...there are none and the product is up to date..

Nico,
Everything looks good! Load your project into disc copier and burn to a ISO file try that. If it don't burn to the +R try this. A free ISO burn tool,
ImgBurn Current version: 2.1.0.0 download at  ImgBurn.com. Load the Iso and try to burn on the +R with it. If it works there we know it is a software problem.

Nico,

I 20:49:46 Destination Media Type: DVD+R (Disc ID: IS01-001-00) (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x)
I 20:49:46 Write Speed: 8x

Slow the burn down to 4x it might be the media.

Then try a -R. If that don't work the burner is toast.

Do you have any other DVD burning software on your computer?   Perhaps another program that came with the burner.

If the software will burn an 'image file' (.iso), try burning the DVD Builder file to an 'image file' (.iso) INSTEAD of the DVD.    Then try burning the .iso file to the DVD with the other program.

Have you ever been able to burn a DVD?   Is the USB port a USB 2.0 or 1.0?   Do you have any other USB ports on another part of your computer that you might try?

Have you tried tech support for the DVD burner?   You need to find out if it's the burner itself, the computer USB connection or the program.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news - but this drive is being trashed by users pretty severely on videohelp.com regarding compatibility with most media . . .
Normally firmware updates should address these types of issues.

look here   http://www.videohelp...V...arch&list=2

I suggest you chase Toshiba to assist.

Normally firmware updates should address these types of issues.

This is a strange one. The op states he has a Freecom drive. Info Pro says, Toshiba SD-R5372V DVD-R/-RW Drive and TU15 Firmware. Freecoms site has firmware but states only if the drive is reported as there (Freecoms) drive #'s.
In Info Pro the, Microcode upgrade box is unchecked.  I take that as the drive has a fixed chip and cannot update the drive's firmware code, Info Pro shows current Toshiba firmware for the drive. His region code in Info Pro says unset. He stated he has played a bought DVD.

Some of the first Mad-Dogs were Toshiba and had the fixed chip, they were identified as Toshiba.
Maybe that is the difference for a actual Toshiba drive and the oem Freecom, a prom or a eeprom.

Nico,

In the ImgBurn log you burned at 8x! ImgBurn said (Speeds: 2.4x, 4x)
Destination Media Type: DVD+R on that media.
Slow the burn down. Borrow a different brand of disc from someone and try at 4x.

Let's go back to the beginning.

Have you tried burning to an 'image file' first and then using that file with Disk Copier to burn the DVD?

You might need to use a DVD RW until you get this worked out.....

1.  Have you checked for and installed any firmware updates from this toshiba tech support site? http://sdd.toshiba.c...000659c000023ee
?

2.  Have you tried Creator Classic to burn the 'image file'?   Sometimes that will burn an image file when Disk Copier won't.

Do you have any other software on your computer that can be used to burn an ISO (image file) to a DVD?   There are some free or trialware versions at www.videohelp.com.

The purpose of trying a different program would be to determine if it's the software or hardware.

3.  Have you determined that the external drive is hooked up to a USB 2 port?
