I've only used Canon's s/w package that came with my Elura 65 camera to capture and edit video.  I've used Roxio 7.0 for editing music but not video.  I jsut captured my daughter's dance recital.  The capture (in mpg format) is the entire tape and has no scenes .  How can I slice and dice that one MPG file so I can make scenes?  When I'm in Video Wave, I'm not sure how to create scenes out of that one mpg file.

I've looked for a Topic or two that is like "Editing Video using Roxio 7.0" but cannot find any.  If anyone just wants to post up a well known topic, it would be very beneficial to me.   :)
Thanks!

Scenes (chapter) are created via the DVD Builder application (the DVD authoring program).

In DVDBuilder, click Add New Title and select the mpg. A thumbnail is created in the menu section. Right click on this and select Mark Chapters. Select a point in the clip that you want a chapter be marked and press Add. Do this in sereveral points that you want to create chapters. You can remove existing chapter(s) via the Remove button.

You want to create scenes to edit out the parts you don't want, correct?

To create 'scenes', switch to the timeline view in VideoWave.   The you 'split' the video into scenes by playing it to the point you want to cut ( or drag the orange bar).

Basically, you 'split' it into scenes that you want to keep and scenes that you want to 'delete.'    Click on the scenes that you want to delete so that they are outlined in orange, then click the red X.

You may already have scenes if your video has a 'down' arrow on it.    There is also a manual 'scene detect' in the Collections view when you right click on the video in the Media Selector.   However, that is based on change in light and having taped dance recitals, it probably will not give you the scenes that you want.

One more thought.... if you want to 'trim' a scene and it's within 10 frames of the beginning or end of a 'scene', you'll have to do an 'adjust duration' to trim off the frames.

If you look under 'Help and Tutorials' on the main menu that pops up when you open Easy Media Creator 7, you'll find not only tutorials, but 'User Guides' which are pretty detailed.    Unfortunately, the 'timeline' view isn't covered at all, but you'll get an overall view of the program.

For further help, please feel free to ask questions.   That's basically how we all learned.
