Does anyone know how to combine two or more videos created with MyDVD 8? The file type is dmsd. When I go into video edit in videowave to add video, it will only recognize the videowave filetype of dmsm. Is there anyway to get around this problem? Thanks in advance.

First, you did not create any video files in MyDVD, you created a project with instructions on what you want to create on a dvd. that is what a .dmsd file is, a set of MyDVD instructions. It contains no video files. The same applies to VideoWave .dmsm project files. They are just instructions on what you want to create.

If you want to create multiple projects to use in a single dvd priject, you have to create them in VideoWave, then add them to MyDVD.

Since you started in MyDVD, you'll need to get the individual movies into videowave projects so you can add those to a new combined MyDVD project.

Here is a link to a way to do it in version 7/7.5, the same basic principal applies when trying to do it in v8.

Larry, Thanks for your help. Your are a great contributor to this forum.
I read your suggestion and it made sense but it did not work on EMC 8.
First, I cannot find an "advanced edit" optiond.
I opened my dvd project with the .dmsd extension and went to edit in the video witch takes me into videowave. With that open, I cannot find any .dmsm files that match the current edit.
I have also reviewed an extensive dialog on the subject but I don't know how to add the link here.
I think I have learned another lesson in Roxio, i.e. build and edit my videos in videowave.

That's a bummer :) Was hoping it might still work for V8. Sorry, I don't know what else to suggest. At least you know which approach is best for future projects.

You could take one of the dmsd files, do an Edit Movie, and then click File/Output To... and create a MPEG2 or DV AVI file.  Then import that file into MyDVD as a second title along with the other dmsd file.

I know it is an extra step but may be easier than rebuilding the entire project in Videowave.  Note, I have EMC9 installed, not EMC8, but I think all those options are available in Version 8.

I looked at that too Merv, but that's not an option in V8, not even in the Deluxe Suite. Can't even go to Edit Movie then copy and paste panels to VideoWave. So it doesn't look like 8 has any "escape clauses" in it. :) At least there's a way around it for V9 for future endeavers.

Thanks for checking that in V8, Larry.  I wasn't sure, but I thought Videowave and MyDvd were very close to the same in both 8 and 9.  Obviously I was wrong at least on this issue.

There were great improvements in VW and MyDVD, in version 9.  Version 8 was good for everything outside of video editing.

Thanks to all of you for your comments, insight and experience. I started with EMC 8 and it looks like I will be stuck here for awhile until my current projects are finished.
This may not be an entirely ethical question to ask here, but with the weath of experience in the forum, I must assume that Roxio is the best of breed in the marketplace or you would be using another product.  I looked at a demo version of Nero 7 and I did not like it at all. I do think Nero has better burning options and vendor support. Roxio has almost no vendor support worth anything. The help files are pretty good but inaccurate in so far as not all features and functions in the help file actually work as described or not at all. I also used an early version of Intervideo to build a project and I liked it very much. Intervideo also seems to be in transition to a newer product, so I have not purchased the current version. Until something better comes along I will be forced to expend unreasonalble amounts of time to build my projects.

Ahhh, trade-offs everywhere.  Try to locate a Nero sponsored forum.  There isn't one.

I don't think it's an ethical problem in what you've brought up. I think it's a subjective topice tho. Not everyone has the same style, needs or expectations even tho they are trying to get the same basic end result, like a DVD video disc. Whether Roxio is "best of breed" will depend on the person. To some it is, others I'm sure will disagree. For myself, nothing else I've tried stacks up to it, especially for Video production work. VideoWave, for me, is top of the line.

I think support can be subjective too. If one has a bad experience with a companies support offerings, they are going to think it's bad. If they have a good experience, they'll think it is good. For myself, I've never had any problems getting the support I needed from Roxio, plus they have the added bonus of these forums. In my case then, I'm satisfied with their support offerings.
