My original question was - Is 9 any better than 8 and should I bother with trying 9 in hopes it will work with the HP Media Center, I have a 4 year old Gateway which I have updated with 2 GIG ram, 100 GIG HD plus 2 - 250 GIG external hard drives, firewire, the 4 year old Gateway which works, though slow, I know it is out of date, that is why I bought the HP and 8 in hopes of a better way to edit, burn, but after trying 8 I had to go back to 7 just to get it to work at all. Has 9 overcome any of 8's problems? ROXIO NEVER replys to e-mails, no they are not blocked. I find offensive your statement that there is more to this than I am saying, I laid it out TRUTHFULLY and to the point, if you want the full version, I can do that but it is long and drawn out as I have been fighting this for MONTHS,,since MAy of this year, I think I have been patient and tried everything everybody has suggested, but when it doessn't work everybody including ROXIO just walk away.
UPDATE: Just spoke to Tech support, now they are saying that there is a problem with the HP registry and I need to get a "Registry Cleaner" and that there is something wrong with the HP registry, and even formatting the Hard drive will not solve the Regisrty Problem, has any body heard of this?

If you were having trouble with V8, most likely you will have trouble with V9. Yes, there may have been some bug fixes, but they fairly much work the same with the same system requirements. Both REQUIRE DirectX 9c and a video card/audio card that fully supports it. If you purchased an HP MCE that only has video on the motherboard, most likely you will have some problems because those video chipsets do not fully support DirectX. It is highly recommended to purchase a separate video card that does.

Some of thse folders are hidden so you need to set Windows to show them first.
To do a clean install:
First, remove all Sonic/Roxio products using the Control Panel. Then remove these folders if they still exist:
C:\program files\roxio
c:\program files\sonic
c:\program files\common files\roxio shared
c:\program files\common files\sonic shared
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Roxio
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sonic
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Roxio
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Sonic
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Application Data\Roxio
Then remove any IE cookies with Sonic/Roxio in this folder:
c:\document and settings\username\cookies
example:
username@activation.roxio[1].txt
username@registration.roxio[1].txt
username@www.roxio[1].txt
username@www.sonic[2].txt
Then use a registry cleaner to remove any entries that may still exist. RegSeeker works well and it's free. It has a function to search for a string like 'Roxio'. Remove any entries that refer to Roxio or Sonic. BE CAREFUL! Removing other entries could seriously affect how Windows runs.
When finished, REBOOT the computer and reinstall EMC9.

Let me tell you more: my HP is a HP Media Center m7250n 250 GB HD Pentium D - CPU 2.80Ghz - 1 GB RAM, two Western Pacific 250GB Ext HD. There is NOTHING else on this computer, no printer, no extra soft ware, the Norton that came with it, which I turn off when editing, EVERY software that isn't absolutly necessary has been uninstalled, leaving Microsoft Media Center Edition XP operating system. I have removed and manually cleaned the Roxio/Sonic registries with RoxZip as told to do by ROXIO tech, I have followed their e-mailed registry cleaning manually as told to do so many time I can do it with out instructions, (I have to do "Disaster Re3covery" every two weeks remember) I just bought MaxSecure Registry Cleaner which found 4500+ errors in the registry, keep in mind this computer had a "DISASTER RECOVERY" a week ago, basically a HD format, I will try your complete redo per your instructions and then do another Registry scan and then reload Roxio, this computer came with Sonic and before I do any thing after a "Disaster Recovery" I first uninsatll Sonic then all other unnecessary soft ware, Games, Money, ets. and then install ROXIO.

I noticed there are several updates for your model on the HP site. There is a motherboard BIOS update. You can use the latest Realtek High Def drivers from the Realtek website. Looks like your machine came with the ATI Radeon x300se. Make sure you have the latest drivers from ATI and the latest DirectXwhich was just released.

Thanks will try all of this, this was more help than any contact on the phone to HP or Roxio, the first month I had $95.00 in toll charges to Roxio because I didn't know that the call center was in Canada, I have free long distance in US, everything else Roxio is referred to as California. Now I see they have a disclaimer stating that Tech suppoert is in Canada

If you follow all that I have posted and you are still having trouble, don't hesitate to call the number above, but at least give it another shot.

I give up everything I try to use says it is not installed, BULL CRAP it is installed so when I try to install it says there is an error reading the disc, I QUIT, enough is enough, this worthless piece of crap is going back under my 30 day trial. I have tried everything I was told to do, and everyday it is a new battle, I'm going back to 7.5 at least it was somewhat dependable, 9

it costs you long distance to call 800 or 866 number? cause I can only find a 800 number and a 866 number for tech support on Roxio website... what number did you dial? and where did you get that number from?

It sounds like your install disc is bad and just needs to be replaced. Scratches happen to CD's all the time. Its not a quality issue.

I don't know now where I got that #, but as their hours are my working hours, I had to call on my noon hour, I spent 4 days in a row on hold and never spoke to any one until the 4th day and then they were unable to help, at that time there was no disclaimer stating that tnumber was in Canada as there is now and they tell you to use such and such toll free #, that was NOT done at that time.

Well it is sitting on my desk all wrapped up ready to go back for a refund, there are NO visable scratches on either disc. I have reinstalled 7 and it still works, still quirkey, but it does work and it doesn't conflict with everything on my computer like 9 eveidetially did, currently 7 is burning a batch of 5 disc at once, I have to have about 12 other DVD videos burnt and ready for sale this week end, couldn't depend on 9 so it is going back. It became a daily battle to make it work at all, I am frustrated with it and that is why I went back to 7
This software has problems no matter what anyone tells you here is my story:
This sometimes happens when trying to create a movie with MyDVD.
80040207 Error while Encoding Movie
An unrecoverable device error occurred. Error while Aborting
Tried to trim a WMV clip an error box pops up no dialog. Program
requires restart. Lost all work.
Trying to create a slide show to insert into VideoWave, multiple
errors:
if I do a save and close the project and the open it again
what I was trying to do sometimes works. Other times all is lost.
The current production is empty or contains invalid files.
"Could not create the renderer object. This be be caused by
DirectX 9.0 not being installed."
I have tried reinstalling DirectX 9c. It did not help.
I have many other programs that use Directx 9c and get
no errors. I have benchmarked my video cards with
3DMark06 and get a very good results.
Here is an error caused when trying to preview an mpg
that was just made by Video Wave.
Invalid argument passed to function
.\IPEBase.cpp(1257): *** Error NULL = pTrans.p,2010025
THis error happens when I try to edit a movie from MyDVD
s\DVDDcontext.cpp(171) *** 80004005
No reason is given for that error, software locks and I have to
force it to shut down.
I see lots of these strange messages. These type of
of errors in well written code should be intercepted
by error handeling and provide the user
with some kind of fix, or at least a logical explaination.
Drag to disk causes blank disk not to eject. I keep getting
"Recorder is busy. Please try again later." The only fix
is a reboot.
I have have followed the clean install instructions.
I have reinstalled directx 9c.
I have defragged both with MS OEM and am now using DiskKeeper
I have scanned for virus problems, spyware and malware.
My computer has the horsepower so what is the problem here?
After much patience and (not exagerating) hundreds of hangs and crashes
I was able to create a movie from my clips. The only problem almost
everytime I go back to do an edit (even though the only thing I have done
is shut down my computer) MyDvD says files are missing and must be relocated.
Please anyone honestly have you got this software to work with out one
problem? I have tried calling tech support too only to be outsourced to what seems to be somewhere other than the USA. No help, long waits, and they keep telling me to reinstall.
