Hi,

I just bought a new car that you can play MP3's in.  Once I burned them, some didn't play....got help, they said I had to shorten the name....I guess it was too long.  The problem now is...once I burn them to a disk, the only way they play is in alphabetical order.  I've number each title 1 thru...I did this once the project was ready to burn.  I went into each song...right click...then edit audio auto tags and it still plays in alphabetical order.  Does anybody know how to fix this?  It's a 2007 Corvette with Navigation.

                                          Thanks, Jerry

Did you just burn them using Creator Classic as a data disc or did you use Music Disc Creator and create an mp3 disc.If you used MDC then a playlist would be created and I'd think you could skip around and play like you want.
Nice ride by the way...lol

Hi,

I used MDC and thank you, it really is a fun car.  In the playlist I put them excatly as I wanted them, but for some reason they never play the same way.  I wish I knew why, any other suggestions?

                                            Thanks, Jerry

I tend to suspect the Player, not all mp3 Players will utilize a Playlist.

I would spend a little more time the Players owner manual and contact the manufacture. I would check with the car dealer early on, you never know?

I was told it was Roxio, they said to use ITunes and it would give me a playlist.  Never used ITunes so not sure what I'm going to do.  Thanks for your help.

You shouldn't need iTunes plus that software has much stricter DRM, too. You need to find out more about the player in the car. It maybe more compatible with the HighMAT format.Check the MDC project settings.

Hi,

I will try that later today...Thank you!  Question....when should I rename it....in my music folder first before I put it in the project list to be burned....or once it's in the project list then change the file name?

                          Thanks, Jerry

MDC seems to ignore the filename on the hard drive. Rename the songs in MDC.

You say you're editing the "auto tags", which I presume to mean that you're editing the tag information, not the file name.  If your car stereo isn't supporting playlists, then it may not be looking at the tag information either.  So, did you name each file with a numeric prefix (changing the name using Windows Explorer) or did you just edit the Tag information?  I would suggest that changing the file name is what you need to do if you haven't.

Dave - from what others have posted, MDC will ignore the numbers if renamed. Haven't checked it out personally.  Look at the MDC project settings dialog box I posted above.  I would 'assume' that is exactly what MDC does when creating the MP3 CD when you check that option. Guess I need to do some expertimenting to see if that assumption is correct.

Here is a shot from MDC v8. On the right content from a HD folder.
On the left content from the disc, no rename and no box checked.
It maintained most of the name and tag , dropped the # and alphabetized the order.

I tried this and if you check the box that Gary shows that says "Rename tracks to ensure playback order" then it will leave the tracks in the order they are added to the project regardless of numbering or anything else.At least it did for me in 2 different attempts.

OK!!!  After wasting at least 15 CD's.  With all your help, I think I got it working right.  First off I needed to shorten a lot of the song names in properties in internet explorer and then change the track number.  After that I did what ggrussell said to do...I need to check the box in project settings in MDC....rename tracks to ensure playback order and it worked.  Thanks again for everybodys help.
