I am trying to capture the video from about 30 video tapes made on an 8 mm camera.  The camera is plugged into the "HP TV Tuner and Personal Video Recorder."  The capture freezes at random intervals.  Sometimes it will run for 5 minutes or so and stop.  I then rewind the tape and start over again and it may run for about 30 minutes to an hour.  Sometimes I have to try restarting 4 or 5 times before it runs for a reasonable length of time.

My computer is an HP Pavilion zd7180us notebook running with  a Pentium 4 at 3.8 ghz and 1gb of RAM.

First guess would be the cable between the camcorder and capture device???

If you have access to another one, try that.

I want to thank the Digital Guru for his suggestion.  It made me think about how I had the HP TV Tuner and Personal Video Recorder set up.  It was plugged into a USB Hub.  When I plugged it directly into one of the USB ports on the computer, my problem disappeared.

Another problem also disappeared.  Before it took about 5 minutes for the Video Capture screen to display.  Now it takes less than a minute.  It could still be faster, but that is a big improvement.
