My EZMC8 which I originally downloaded from Digital River worked fine, except the Content CD install always stops a a particular point, ie. looking for Business.mp3. Retries or ignores don't help. I told DR about this and they sent me a another copy of the Content CD but still same problem. I reported that to them and lo and behold, they sent me both CD! But... still no getting past the hang.

Roxio support twice asked me to perform a clean install which I did but there was no improvement in either case.

I'm plumb out of ideas at this point, any suggestions???

BTW, I talked to a Roxio sales guy who's best suggestion (no surprise here...) was that I should purchase EZMC9 and all my problems would be solved.

Ha Ha sez I! If Roxio can't get, and I can't get EZMC8 to work, why in HE double hockeysticks would I want to lay out another chunk of cash on the outside chance that things would work as expected.

Anyway, still open to any suggestions.

Try this. Create a temp folder on your hard drive, then copy the contents of the cd to that folder and try running it from there.

What also works Larry is to copy the contents of both CDs to the temp folder and do a custom install from there.

I select all and then remove D2D (cos I hate it) and then run setup0 - content will go in with the rest of the stuff in one go

Thank you for the suggestion, Larry. I created a temp drive on C: and moved RoxioEMCContentCDv8.05_efisdj.exe from the CD to the c:\temp folder. For my troubles I got a cryptic message about needing to be an Administrator!! Windows is like that. I've found that when it gets confused or otherwised doesn't know what's going on, it start to make stuff up...delivering nonsensical error messages that can drive users down the wrong road, not to mention crazy.

Anyway, I moved the temp directory to d:\ and although the install program took off like it meant business, again it stopped at the same point... looking for business.mp3. The error is 1309. Error reading from file.

Just out of interest, would you try searching for and copying the 'business.mp3' file to the drive.

Reason for asking is that it seems not to be there - if everything copied with no warning messages about file failure, it would seem that the file just doesn't exist. In that case, make a dummy file of that name and see if it installs

One other thing you could try is to open the downloaded file ( RoxioEMCContentCDv8.05_efisdj.exe ) with a zip program (like Winzip or Winrar) and extraxt it's contents to a temp folder, then try installing.

Thanks for stickin' with this. I went to the TMP directory that the Content CD uses for its install and deleted everything (to a safe folder...) then I ran msconfig and made sure nothing would start up. I rebooted and ran the Content CD program and got the same error. But I notice two things... first the error message states:
------------
Error 1309, Error reading from file: C:\DOCUMEN~\KARLWE~\LOCALS~1\TMP\PFT2E.tmp\program files\Roxio\Easy Media Creator 8\VideoUI\Content\Audio\Business.mp3. Verify that the file exist and you can access it.
-------------
In fact, Business.mp3 is in \TMP\ but not in \program files\Roxio\Easy Media Creator 8\VideoUI\Content\Audio

I'm not even sure if that a legal path... drilling down to Documents & Settings and bopping over to Program Files... is that uh... normal??

Next time it stops at the error message, try copying business.mp3 over to the temp folder manually and see if the install will resume.

Bit of a long shot but it may get past the problem

One other thing to note - when you copy the contents over to the hard drive, make certain that any read only and hidden attributes are cleared (in case that is screwing up the copy process)

This thread has come to a final, and happy conclusion. The problem is solved, although I won't try to explain it because I can't.
I've tried, off and on for several months to get the Content CD installed, always getting errors and having to roll back. I have tried dozens of different things, including the support guys suggestions and most of the suggestions in this thread, to no avail. I keep the Content CD on my desk and whenever I think of something new to try, I give it a shot. Tonight, while I was chewing on a chicken wing, it came to me that I hadn't really tried qi7omy's suggestion the way it was suggested it because I misunderstood it. However, unzipping the CD files to a temp file on my HD and installing from there worked! So my thanks to qi7omy and Larry for their suggestions and comments. Computers... :)

That's great. Happy to hear it worked out for you. Maybe it was the chicken wing sauce that did it. :D
