I am running the 10.4.8 combined update, updated to Toast 6.1.1 and Quicktime 7. I cannot get my powerpoint slide presentation to burn. Using Video, I get the message that the ppt is unsupported format. If I try to burn under Data, the DVD does not recognize the disc. I have burned a presentation earlier (on Memorex CD) and it runs fine from my DVD player. I have tried both Memorex DVD and Sony CD with no luck. what am I doing wrong? If it worked once, I can't figure what I am doing that it won't work again.
Thank you for any help I can get.

So what you want is to convert the Powerpoint presentation to a format that will play like a movie in a video DVD player. Is that correct? If so you need to use Powerpoint to export the presentation as a movie. In my old OS 9 version of Powerpoint that option is in the File menu. After exporting the movie, drag the movie to the Toast Video window.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

A good suggestion that should work but doesn't. Actually, my old ppt slide presentation is burned under DATA on a Memorex CD and it will run on the DVD (no movies or sound or text). But, in my current configuration I cannot get ppt.mov to burn under Video. I get "CD-ROM XA or Audio cannot be written to DVD" and just the ppt slideshow is "not supported." Burning the slide show to DATA on the Memorex DVD and my DVD player says it can't read it and insert another disc. I have also gotten a "Mac OS Error -2009)
I can get KeyNote to burn under DATA on a Sony CD and it will run on my DVD player but no movies will run and everything, including text, has to be saved in jpeg.
I have tried so many options but something seems to be interferring with the outcome I would like: a video of my slides and movies. Too much to ask for sound too?

Admittedly I'm being theoritical because I haven't taken the time to create a similar project and see how it works out on my Mac.
In order for a video DVD player to see what's on a DVD, the content must be authored into a VIDEO_TS folder. That's what Toast does when you choose DVD video as the format in the VIDEO window. In order for Toast to do that, it must have a QuickTime-playable video or it must have JPEG images. The latter, however, can only be burned without sound in Toast so exporting your Powerpoint slides as JPEGs won't get you what you want.
When you use the term "ppt.mov" I'm wondering if your exported movie file has two extensions to its file name. Does it really have both ppt and mov? If so, delete the ppt from the name (assuming there is other text that precedes the .ppt. If you double-click on the .mov file it should automatically launch and play in QuickTime Player. Does that happen?
When you burn something other than a VIDEO_TS folder in the data window (as well as using DVD Rom as the format) it won't be readable by a video DVD player. So forget about using the Data window unless your goal is to make a backup to mount on a computer.
The movie you need to save from Powerpoint should be a Quicktime full quality movie at 720x480 NTSC (unless you're in a PAL country). You can do this from Keynote as well but you need to select the custom settings in the QuickTime export windows. Or you can choose to export to iDVD and either have iDVD burn your presentation to DVD or choose Save as Disc Image to have Toast burn that iDVD image file in the Toast Copy window.

That is the problem with the PowerPoint, there are ext .ppt.mov The information has been very helpful. I can export the slides as Images and burn them both as Data and as Video and both will play on the DVD player. I can control the Data, no control for the Video but runs fine. As for the DVD, I did some reading in the DVD manuel and the problem is not at the Toast end but that my player will not read DVD R/RW. I had not been using DVD videos. I will continue to work with the movies and see if I can get them to run but at least I have a slide presentation I can run through the DVD player. Thanks for the suggestions and support.
