I recently ordered the Final Cut Studio upgrade and upon receipt of the disks, realized I needed to upgrade to Tiger in order to install FCP 5.1.  I then ordered Tiger, installed it, and upgraded FCS.  Toast stopped working (I think it just wouldn't open, but it's been a couple of days now and I can't quite remember).

I did a little digging and found that I needed to update to 6.1.1.  I downloaded the update and went through the prompts (update registration information, check the box stuff).  Upon completion of the update, Toast attempts to launch.  The Toast interface is briefly visible and then disappears.  There is no error message, the program simply will not run.  I've tried to reinstall from my hard copy of 6.  I've tried to reinstall from 6.1.1 .dmg.  Each time it is the same, I am prompted to go through the setup and then...  nothing.

I'm running a Dual 2 GHz G5 with 1.5 GB Ram, 10.4.8 and an X-Serve RAID.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried deleting the two Roxio Toast plist files that are in your User>Library>Preferences folder? Also, try disconnecting any Firewire devices and then launch Toast. Does that make any difference? Toast can have problems if a Firewire video capture device is connected.
I'm just a fellow Toast-user so please don't blame Roxio for any misguidance I may provide. And do let me know if your issue gets solved. Cheers from Eugene, Oregon!

Tsantee,

Thank you for your help.  I trashed the .plist files as you suggested.  The .plist files didn't seem to change anything, so I followed your other piece of advice and unplugged my AJA Io board (I always forget that it connects via firewire 400) and upon reboot was able to reinstall Toast 6 and then upgrade to Toast 6.1.1.  I then rebooted a second time and plugged the AJA Io back into the system and everything works fine now.
