Thanks for this Larry. I was aware that I was being prompted to backup the installation, not the installed programme. I have always assumed that programmes saying Backup are what one uses when looking to make a backup!! To me, the fact that this is NOT where you make a backup is just one more example of how non-user friendly this version is. So to make a data backup I should actually select the option to copy data to a disc. Thanks for that and thanks for taking the trouble to reply (unlike Roxio's appalling customer service's!)
Cheers

Ok, I'll try.
What the message was trying to convey was that you should make a backup copy of the installation file that one downloads. This is in case you need to re-install or repair your installation again at some point, as the file is only available for download for a set number of days. Or in case of a hard drive failure and you loose that installation file. It is not suggesting that you backup the installed program. If you purchased this on CD, then it is not relevant, as you have the discs already.
The downloaded file is named something like RecordNow8.exe (don't know the actual name myself, just using this as an example). To backup that file, you can do any number of things. If you have a second hard drive, you could copy it to that drive. That would be considered a backup of it. Another common option would be to burn it to a disc. Guessing that the file is < 700mb in size, a CD-R disc would be ideal for this purpose. Open RecordNow, and choose the option to create a Data Disc. Do NOT use the Backup option. Add the file to the Data Disc project, and burn it to the disc. A backup copy is now available on a CD.
Some would even suggest doing both the second hard drive (if available) copy and the data disc.
Hope that helps.
Hi.
Just to confirm that I too can not get a refund or even get near to discussing one!! The links Roxio gives are all dead ends, as you have also discovered. I have talked to a couple of Customer Service desks too, both of whom seem all too familiar with despairing callers trying to get a refund. Unfortunately they can't actually help with this - once Roxio gets your money they are not going to let it go again! They are also not interested in how you get on with their product.
For the peace of mind and computing enjoyment of our household, we have decided to call it a day and delete this awful prog from our computer. I am going to consider the financial loss as a useful learning experience - in the future anything with Roxio on it is not going to be an option!!
Good luck!

Sorry I don't have an answer for you much like Roxanne. I purchased and downloaded premier 8 over 2 weeks ago still haven't been able to install it. I have called, emailed for a refund posted a few times in the forum, but to no avail. I did get a quick response from customer service that they could not refund my money however. That I would have to register my product and go online through support first (which I have done at least 10 times) but when I go to login I just get the message that I haven't registered. I guess when I finally am registered that I get to go through another bot (sonja) so that she can give me some help?
Whatever!!!!!
I am so angry and dissappointed. If I see a solution to your problem anywhere I will quickly reply.
