MYDVD vs Videowave for Slideshows

Okay, I have hit a brick wall with the MYDVD 99 picture limit (per menu) for slideshows on DVD. Saving to .ISO file does not help. So I assume I must use Videowave.
How does this work?
1) Do I input the pictures into Videowave and make a video and then put it into MYDVD for the menus?
2) Or do I have to create a slideshow with Videowave? Then how do I get it into the MYDVD menu format?
I am sure that I am missing something. Seems like it should not be a problem to have over 99 pictures per menu. Can you point me in the right direction? I am spinning.

Don, a good start would be to download this and do a little reading.

Hi, Thanks but I have searched till you can see my frustration and can find nothing in the manual that talks about the 99 picture limit or "Chapters". I assume each picture is a "Chapter" in MYDVD and there can only be 99 per menu. If you use Videowave, then all the pictures are made into one "Chapter". Is this correct?
Then, what does the "Edit Chapters" do?

Yes, it will be all one production in VideoWave. I rarely make chapters, but I suppose you can create chapters in MyDVD, at points in your slide show, that you want them.

I can not find any way of changing the "Chapter" per picture other than using Videowave to combine them into a video. A Videowave video uses much more space on the DVD than slideshows of the same number of pictures.
So ... I think the question for me is:
* Use MYDVD slideshows if I am happy with less than 99 pictures per menu. (More menus but also more pictures per DVD)
* Use Videowave if I want more than 99 pictures per menu. (Less pictures per DVD)
Does this sound right?

First of all, what are you trying to do? Are you trying to make a DVD of the pictures that will play in your set top DVD player, connected to your television? If so, that is a DVD movie.
Both VideoWave and MyDVD will make your pictures into a DVD movie, when it is burned. That takes up the DVD. This is the process that you should use to create your slide show DVD movie:
1. Create your production in VideoWave. You can add captions to pictures, add music to the slide show, add transitions between picture, and a whole lot more, if you so desire.
2. Save your production. Save it to a folder outside of the program, on you hard drive. I create a folder where all of my productions are saved. The file extension will be .dmsm
3. Close VideoWave, and open MyDVD. Since I have version 9 on my computer, I am not sure that the next thing that I tell you is the same as it is in version 8. I have version 8, but not on my computer.
Click on Add New Movie, then browse for the .dmsm you just made, highlight it, then click Add.
4. Now, you can create your menus, and menu music, as you did before. You can also add chapters, wherever you want, by clicking on the movie in the Preview Screen. I am not sure how you do it in version 8, but you can find out in the Help files. Someone else may come in and help you with that.
5. Once you have done everything that you want, click on the burn button. I would advise burning to an image (ISO) file and not directly to a DVD. Uncheck the burn to disc option. Give your ISO file a name and location and click on burn.
6. Wait until the file is burned, then save your production in MyDVD, close MyDVD, and open Disc Copier. Browse for your ISO file there, and burn it to a disc.
Keep in mind that you will get 1 hour of video, at best quality, on a standard 4.7 GB DVD.

SUCCESS!!!!
I reduced the number of pictures per menu to 99 or less in MYDVD and it works great.
I ran a test: 140 picture slideshow in Videowave takes 840MB but only 129MB in MYDVD. Using Videowave greatly reduces the number of pictures you can put on one DVD.
NOTE to ROXIO: Add a note to the MYDVD manual that only 99 pictures are allowed per menu.

Using VideoWave reduces the number of nothing. The length, in time, of the video you produce determines how many photos will get in your production.
Forget the size of the file. It basically means nothing. I have no clue what you actually did in MyDVD, but my hunch is that it wasn't totally done in MyDVD, even if you thought it was. Or, you have VCD or SVCD selected as your project type.
