I'm using Creator Classic 8 with a DVD burner. Burning DVDs generally works fine (except for the odd occasion when for some reason I can't import the session that's on the currently-inserted DVD so that I can update the data files). However, I've come across a problem with CD-R's and I am not sure how to solve it. In trying to work with CDs previously burned using this software I couldn't get the ... button to activate (it remains deactivated). This essentially means I have no way to access the index on the disc to change folder names, update folders, or to add/delete files. In essence, it is a read-only disc. This despite the fact that when I burn CD-Rs, I very specifically tell the program NOT to make it a read-only disc. When I insert a burned CD into the drive and look at the properties under Roxio's "disc and device" utility, it says "Not recordable" instead of "Appendable". Even when I use a blank CD, it will say "CD-R, Blank, Not recordable."
Is there something I am not setting here? How do I force the CDs I burn to be appendable?

When you go to burn the disc, click the + under 'Burn Options' then the + under 'General Options' and you'll see a 'Read Only' box. Make sure this box is not checked. Checking this box finalizes the disc and leaving it unchecked allows you to make the disc appendable.
I had a cd burner that would not make appendable discs until I updated the firmware so also make sure your drive(s) have the latest firmware.

What you're explaining about a CD-r is what should happen.Once the info is recorded to it you can't change it or delete it.You should be able to add another session to it but you shouldn't be able to manipulate the data that's already written to it.Try Pauls suggestion about a firmware update if you can't get it to do sessions.

The checkbox Paul mentioned is turned off by default, and I always make sure it's off when burning eithr CDs or DVDs. It makes no difference - the CDs I burn I cannot add new sessions to. I am aware that with CD-Rs you cannot change the data on the CD, but you can do such things as rename directories, rename files, and add/delete files. I have no problem doing this with DVDs I burn.
Also, everything works fine if I use Roxio's "Data Disc" application. It will happily import CD information that Creator Classic will not and allow me to do such things as mentioned above. Given that, I don't think it's a problem with my burner that necessitates me getting a firmware update. If one application works fine and one doesn't, chances are it's the application.

You could be right, but common sense necessitates getting the firmware update for your burner.
