Roxio CD Creator 5 came with my Gateway computer when I bought it November, 2001. I never had problems using the program (which in the last few months, suddenly was incompatible with Windows XP SP1. I started having other issues, so a computer tech reformatted my hard drive and loaded Windows XP Pro SP2. I wasn't worried about loosing my personal files when the hard drive was reformatted beacuse I backed the files up on a CDRW formatted with the Roxio CD creator 5. Never had any problems reading the disc.
When I put the disc in the drive, a box came up and said I needed to install UDF reader. I clicked Okay, and it installed. BUT, when I tried to read the disk, the only files ON the disk were: autorun.inf, udfrchk.exe, and udfrinst.zl. AND, the cd label was changed from My Documents to UDF READER. I put another disk formatted with Roxio CD creator 5 in and WAS able to read IT.
Is there some way to get my data back? Where did it go in the first place? The UDF reader installer DID NOT say it was erasing the disk or reformatting the disk. HELP! I really need to get to my files!

Try one of the disc recovery programs .... http://www.cdroller.com/ or http://www.isobuster.com/
In the long run you will be further ahead.

Actually, this belongs in the Easy CD Creator 5 Forum, and perhaps someone will move it there later, but for now you know where it is.
This is pinned to the top of the ECDC 5 Forum:
http://forums.suppor...p?showtopic=122
Read VERY CAREFULLY the sections on Formatting CD-R or CD-RW discs, DirectCD, and CD-RW. Ogdens has already summarized the section on "missing files".
In the future, use CD-R if you want to keep the information more than a few days, and NEVER format the disc if you want to KEEP the data.
If it is any consolation, I became knowledgable about the subject because I permantly LOST the 80% of the data on the formatted CD-RW that wasn't also on the Hard Drive.

Thansk so much for the links! I downloaded Isobuster and IT WORKED! Got ALL my files back!!!! It is well worth $25.95. This program saved me weeks of reconstructing documents. I highly recommend it. It's a great program. Now, as far as Roxio CD Creator 5 goes, it's not high on my list of software programs. I will be shopping around for a better program. Thanks again.

Glad that worked for you.
The ECDC 5 that came with your Gateway was a OEM version of Roxio (they provide all support)
Also, once you loaded in SP2 it probably would not have worked anyway as happened to many users(it works for some).

This is a 1999 program, so it's about time you got something more current.
HOWEVER, ANY program, new or old, that uses Packet-Writing (i.e., formats a CD) would have done equally well to lose your data. (Roxio's DirectCD or Drag2Disc, Sonic's DLA, Nero's InCD, etc)
AND since the aluminum alloy that you melt and recrystalize in "burning" a CD-RW promptly starts to de-crystalize right after you "burn" it, ANY CD-RW would have done equally well to lose your data.
Combining CD-RW with Packet-Writing usually speeds the permant loss of data.
So I'm sure whatever Packet-Writing program you use to replace the one you have, and whatever CD-RWs you use, will give you the same results in the future.
