When I upgraded to EMC9, I found that the Pan and Zoom editor in Videowave doesn't work for me - there are no image previews at all when I open it. Version 8 worked fine. I checked this forum and saw I wasn't the only one with this problem, so I wrote to Roxio asking if this was a bug.  The response was to check my directx 9.0c and video driver versions (which are up to date).

Yesterday I went into the "auto-edit with CineMagic" program, added some pictures, and then went from there to Videowave, and -- voila! -- the Pan and Zoom editor now worked!  With a little experimenting, I've found that if I select a single picture in the auto-edit program and switch to videowave, that I can delete the picture and whatever else comes with it, and open an existing project or start a new one, and the pan and zoom editor works just fine.

Its a klutzy work-around, but it works, at least for me. It also proves that videowave pan and zoom definitely has a bug that needs to be zapped! I've tried reporting it to Roxio, but I have a hard time navigating the support labyrinth, and I doubt anyone on the other end will take it seriously.  I know there are considerate, sensible people from Roxio that check these forums, and maybe one of them can convince the company that this is something that has to be fixed, and not as EMC10!

Fantastic ! I've been fighting this forever. I'm going to try it now. Since I have seen only a couple of us having the problem, I wouldn't hold out much hope for an early fix but who knows. :)

This worked for me if I opened the three stage Assistant in the list under Video.  It di not work from the two step assistant that is part of VideoWave or MyDVD.  Thanks for your suggestion.

Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

In my case, the Pan and Zoom Editor works fine. I just finished a VW production where I used the Editor for almost all the 80 pictures in that production.

My problem is not exactly the same as yours.  I can see the start and end images but no preview screen.

I'm glad for you.  :D

Yes, but  (I hate that phrase),  there are several of us where pan and zoom didn't give the preview even with good and updated video cards and DirectX.  I have done clean reinstalls, changed video drivers, changed video set-up and looked for other programs that may have caused the problem.  I have never been able to get the preview so I just gave up using pan and zoom.   :D

I had a similar problem with EMC 8 but found that if I edited the slide show in MyDVD, then I would get the preview and could work with pan and zoom.

BTW, my old notebook gives me the pan and zoom with its old built in chip in both MyDVD and Video Wave 8. :)

I'm beginning to think that there is a command in V8 and V9 that my video card does not like.  :D  Your video card may be able to use that command.

GPB
Try this, it works but you must use CineMagic under the Video (function) list  I got all three images.

This work around is a great find!  :)  I have been "fighting" with the Pan & Zoom function of VideoWave9 since I installed it. Now if I start CineMagic and go to edit with VideoWave, I can skip around anyone of several existing  VideoWave projects and P&Z works fine.

This must be a EMC 9 bug. If I open a project by first starting VideoWave, the Pan & Zoom edit function window does not show any of the three thumbnails (start, finish, preview). I hope the problem gets addressed soon.

I just installed a new video card (GeForce 7300 GT) and a 480w power supply. The system has a 915G Intel chipset, a P4 3.0 GHz processor and 1 GB of RAM.  I have the Oct 06 DirectX drivers installed along with the Nov 06 nVidia drivers (93.71).

Thanks for the posting and email alert.

Another work around

The CineMagic approach works fine, but I stumbled onto another work around for the Pan & Zoom editor problem. If you have an existing VideoWave production that you want to edit, just click on the .dmsn file in Windows Explorer to open it. VideoWave starts and the Pan & Zoom editor works. It seems that starting VideWave in any way other than the Home Page gets around the problem.

I have one .dmsn file that doesn't follow this rule, but haven't figured out why yet.

I just got EMC 9 and the pan and zoom started out working fine, but now I can't see any of the three images (start, end or preview).  It's VERY frustrating and I have an important project that I have to finish today.  I can't figure out your workaround yet, but I'm going to struggle to see if I can.

Try going through Start/All Programs/Roxio EMC 9/Video/VideoWave, and see if you see all 3 views.

Hello All,

I had the same problem with the Pan and Zoom that you all are having when using version 9 and trying to work with projects created with version 7.  However, there are no problems so far if I create the project entirely with version 9 or if I open a project created with an earlier version and essentially reimport all the content.  Its possible or do-able with images, but a real pain with video clips.  However, if I do that, then I have full Pan and Zoom control.  Using Wordpad to view the files that control these projects shows some very significant coding differences and I guess the people at ROXIO could work around it.   They should work out some way to convert these files rather than this tedious and hazardous way I've outlined here.  Good luck.

What you are talking about is not related to directly to pan and zoom but seems to be related to the compatibility of V 7 with V 9..

V 7 is almost three versions behind and was two when you posted.  Think about it, what is the cost benefit of working to make old software compatible with new.  Roxio is not the only one.  At least V8 and V9 work well together and so probably will V10.   Most people accepted it and moved on.  Why didn't you just keep V7 on your computer along with V9 to finish those old projects?

Opening VideoWave from the Windows Start menu is not tedious and many people prefer to open their programs that way.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
