I just bought and download the Cineplayer DVD Decoder for Windows XP and I'm getting the error message "This decoder is not compatible with the synchronization feature of Windows Media Player 10. We recommend against setting this decoder as the preferred decoder" I now have this decoder but I can't play a DVD on my computer can someone please help me ? I have tried using the automated technical support with no luck ! and I am located in Australia and have difficulty in calling customer support.

If it's not compatible with your software it might pay you to try for a refund through however you bought it.

However, in the meantime it will be just starting the weekend at your place so why don't you actually try it and see if it will play DVDs for you before you try Customer Support on Monday.

Micro$oft "recommend against setting this decoder as the preferred decoder" but they don't forbid it, or say it will break the player. Is this "synchronization feature" something you would use? It seems that it means adjusting a media file's bitrate to use in a portable player, so if you don't intend to do that you should be fine.

It's worth a crack. If it doesn't work then uninstall it and try for a refund if you can.

I have just had the identical experience. Having tried to view a DVD on MS Windows Media Player, It would not work and I was advised to get a decoder - Sonic was the first one listed by MS as a suitable option. So I bought and downloaded it. Surely the best answer is for Sonic to fix the problem and offer an update. Or is that too naive?

I just experienced the same problem; needed a decoder, saw Sonic listed first, and purchased/downloaded. I got the same error message using the Microsoft Video Decoder Checkup Utility. I did go ahead and list it as preferred, and it does seem to work fine; tried it on three different DVD's. I'm not sure what the "synchrnization" issue is, but I'm guessing it's not vital or something I need on my PC. I guess for a "bare bones" decoder utility it should be fine...........

Thank you Waldo46 for your helpful comments. When the error message appeared on my screen, I thought the MS danger warning was so srong that I did not have the nerve to ignor it as you did.
However in the meanwhile I have downloaded and installed Media Player 11, and that seems to work just fine. For all I know it may be using Cineplayer without my realising it, but I doubt it. So I think in the end I have been duped into purchasing software that didn't do the job it was supposed to, and is in any event redundant. Thankfully learning the hard way has not been too expensive.

While Cineplayer doesn't meet all of the certification requirements (this is no small feat) we are fully compatible with Microsoft's Media Player and are even recommended by Microsoft as posters above have already pointed out. We are currently working to get certified so we don't get this message but it is actually a substantial amount of work so the process is slow. For now, it is safe to ignore the message, any problems you experience at all have nothing to do with this message, something else is going on. There is absolutely no reason why this should hinder performance, stability, or function.

Kevin J - Very many thanks for this reassurance. The sooner it is fixed the better. The MS warning is very strong, even threatening.

Hi,
I am new here but the problem stated above is the one I am experiencing also. Using Media Player 10 which sent me to Roxio to purchase decoder software. I can load dvd, which is identified but have just sound no picture. Does Roxio plan to do anything about a problem that is obviously widespread?

Do you realize that you just posted to a 4 year old topic?
Perhaps you should repost in the correct forum for you software?
