I have captured several VHS tapes to DVD using EMC 9 Videowave. Each time the audio is out of sync with the mouth by just a fraction of a second, but it is very noticeable. Any help would be appreciated.

I have tried to follow the thread where you started this but you are very stingy with your system info and details…

Defrag was mentioned and you said you do it about once a week. I have had some problems with sync and found I needed to defrag before capture and again before burn! That is why we need to know your system info.

Is it possible that the sync got off during capture? In that case, nothing is going to fix it.

Can you recapture one of your tapes as a fresh test?

Yes, i still have the original VHS tapes. Also I am new at this so i am not sure what info i have to give. If you tell me what will be helpful in addition to what i gave, i will try to find it and post it. I just edited this because i tried what you suggested....I defragged and then captured.... The capture was a little out of sync before even trying an edit or a burn.
PS....I posted that i was going to start defrag weekly now. Prior to the capture and burn, i was only doing it once a month, and it was about a month since the last defrag when i did this project.
Hope this is helpful.

I am assuming after waiting for 6 days, that no one knows how to fix this problem. I was wondering if somebody could steer me in the right direction to get it resolved. This particular project has my deceased parents and several others on it and i hate to lose it by experimenting anymore on my own.
Thank you for any help you may be able to pass on to me.

You haven't given us anything to work with beyond 'don't work'!

You have an irreplaceable tape, don't use it for experiments. Find another tape that produces the same problem and use that along with some RW media to play with. After you get the problems resolved, then go for the one you really want.

I trust you are capturing to your Hauppauge card connecting with RCA cables?

Have you tried using the capture software that came with that card to do the capture with?

Have you tried using Windows Movie Maker to capture with?

The first order of business is to get a good capture.

Hi James and thanks for your response. The wires i am using from my VCR to my computer are 3 wire ( 1 video & 2 audio. Where they plug into my computer it saysComposite video 2.

I did try Windows Movie Maker a few times and i get video but no audio.

The capture software that came with my computer was MyDVDPlus. I had to remove it when i installed EMC 9.

In addition to the info at the top of this thread, my sound card is:
Realtek High Definition Audio

Driver: rtkhdaud.sys
Wednesday,May 31,2006
Supported

I think i told you that the problem happens when i capture, before i edit or burn.

Any additional info that i can supply that may help, please let me know. I also wondered if i was to uninstall the program and reinstall it, would that do anything.
I thought my computer would be up to date because it is only 4 months old.

I checked with HP & Windows and there are no new updates on anything.

Also James, My Windows XP is the Media Center Edition. I didn't know if that would matter.

The same problem is showing up in two separate capture programs, so it is not likely it is a software issue.

I would contact Hauppauge and see what they can offer.

Sounds like what you are looking for. Keep in mind that if it doesn't workout, you can go into Device Manager and 'rollback' the driver. – that update has proven trouble free as far as I know.

However, as I posted, you need to work with Hauppauge on this too. I think that will bear fruit more than anything else.

Hi James,
I am having too much trouble with this unit to try to fix it myself. I have a contract through Best Buy from when i bought the computer in July. The Geek Squad contract only covers the parts, hardware and labor on the computer. For a charge they will also do the software and completely fine tune the unit. Thank you for all your help. I appreciate it.
Bob
