I currently have an Nvida GeForce 4 MX420 with 32MB RAM.  Would upgrading to a newer card such as the ATI Radeon 9250 with 256MB improved the performace of My DVD when it comes to converting MPEG files to DVD?  It currently takes 2-4 hours.

Why does My DVD take so much longer than the Divx to DVD feature in Version 7.5?   Almost twice as long.

Speed wise - probably not, but may help with 3D transitions/effects. Rendering is more CPU intensive.   The DivX to DVD in V7 was a licensed 3rd party app.  That was replaced by the Video Compilation mode in Disc Copier.  Have you tried that? It has more limited menu optins than MyDVD, but maybe quicker. Personally, I don't deal with DivX files.

DivX files must be uncompressed first and the recompressed with MPEG 2 to be DVD compliant.  Converting from one format to another like that just takes time.  A faster CPU would help more.

According to the ATI specs the 9250 is not a DirectX 9 card.
Easy Media Creator 9 system requirements are DirectX 9.
Full support for DirectX ® 8.1 programmable pixel and vertex shaders in hardware.

Yeah, I would think about possibly going with the Visiontek Radeon X1300 256MB (PCI) which supports DirectX 9.0c which is the newest release of DirectX.  I am assuming that you only have PCI slots and that's why you were only looking at the 9250's, which I liked as well for my non-PCIe or AGP slot computer until I saw what was posted above...

Do a bit more research, then definitely get one, as the one you have is just pitiful (my onboard graphics would kick its arse).    :)
