I'm sorry for the length of this post, but it's not easy for me to condense this anymore then what I have done, here.

First, I need to say that I removed Creator 8 from the Control panel-add/remove before installing version 9. The uninstall worked; because, I checked the add/remove area of the control panel and it was gone. Then, I was over zealous and I went to the Roxio program files in drive C to remove anything else that was left there from version 8. It asked me if I was sure I wanted to remove certain files; because, it may affect the performance of other things on my desktop. I thought this would only possibly affect some software; so, I continued to delete and delete. I wanted it clean for the new version. After I did remove as much as possible there all that was left was a folder called virtual drive from version 8. I can't tell you what I removed along the way in the Roxio program files; I'm sorry. Anyway, this process killed all my internal drives(one DVD writer and a CD-rom) and an external drive (DVD writer). I thought I would be buying a new PC at this point. I did some System Restores to see if it would get fixed, but to no avail. I went as far back as a month to do these System Restores and I stayed at the earliest time when I called Hewlett Packard for help. I paid Hewlett Packard $100 to get give me phone tech support to get my drives back. This worked and I now have my drives. The process used by HP was to use RUN commands (redireg---spelling??? and msconfig) and I had to go into the drive manager, too. I just totally followed blindly what the tech told me to do. My drives were whole; so, I was a happy camper.

I proceeded to install Creator 9 and it stated on various pop-up windows that I need to uninstall certain files and I kept saying yes to everything. Some files did not even show a name which I don't understand. It did load and it looked like a good install. I like Videowave and I opened it first and it did open for me. I went to look at add/remove and I saw Creator 9; so, I felt I was fine. To my suprise Creator 8 was now showing on my add/ remove again even though I removed it. I tried removing it once more and I got an error about it. A pop up window called Window Installer came up asking for a CD disk of Creator 8. It stated Use source 1 on the window. I put it in my disk from Version 8 suite and tried to proceed to uninstall. It gave me an error message that stated this patch package could not be opened.

I tried to reinstall Creator 8 and it wouldn't let me do it. Somewhere along the way I was told to find a file folder with .msi in it and try it. I found one such file on the CD and that wouldn't work, either. I thought by getting version 8 back I could uninstall it again and it would be gone for sure. I uninstalled Creator 9 at this point to see if it would help me get Creator 8 back. This didn't work, either.

My status right now: There is nothing left in my Roxio program files about version 8 except for a virtual drive file which can't be removed. It shows a full version of version 8 in the add/remove even though at one time it was gone. I don't have version 9 in my PC at the moment; except for a few files that where left in the Roxio program files in drive C after I uninstalled it. I don't want to touch those files in fear that I won't be able to reinstall version 9.

I'm very afraid Creator 9 will be affected by all this and I don't want to take a chance after putting a lot of effort into a video project. I have already got pop-up windows asking for the Creator 8 CD disk when trying to do a few things. This is the same window pop-up when I was trying to get rid of version 8 in add/remove of the control panel.

I can't say if the System Restore points I used (probably tried 4 different ones) or if my Hewlett Packard Tech in repairing my drives caused all this to happen or a combination of both, but now I'm stuck with not being able to use version 8 anymore and unsure about the stability, etc. of Creator 9.

Is there a way to get rid of Version 8 from my add/ remove with all these problems, now? I don't think I'm up to doing a safe mode add/remove by myself. I saw that suggestion for someone with problems on an uninstall of version 7.5. Obviously, I'm not computer savy enough if it's very complicated to remove it. If I call Hewlett Packard to get them to help me is there something I should tell them; before, they try to help me?

I go back to the Adaptec days with this program and I've had every upgrade and updates that have followed through the years. I'm very lost here. I like your program, but I feel like I'm in deep trouble, now.

:)

I sympathize with your problem. When I tried to remove EMC 8 three times and ended up with a blue screen on reboot with a drive error message (yes, I tried shutting everything down before attempting uninstall). I have had no luck in getting someone from Roxio technical support to answer my internet-based support questions concerning this problem. When I had a version 6 problem, tech support was of no help and also did not reply.

Since economics is not a problem for me, I purchased the EMC 9.0 upgrade to fix my original problem which was related to a RoxWatchTray.exe abnormal ternimation. While I love EMC's functionality, I am about to give up and find another solution. For some reason, this company is not applying any resources to support.

I also still have EMC 8 listed as an installed program. In my experience, I have always solved this problem by executing a search with regedit and deleting all of the product entries. I would, however, recommend that you stay away from your registry unless your are very well versed or have a utility such as Norton Go Back.

Good luck on fixing your problem.

Thanks to both posts for your help.

I did call Hewlett Packard for their tech support, too. I ended up working with both the clean-up utility software and the registry. HP connected me with a link from Roxio with the steps to do a clean uninstall. I only removed Roxio files and I stayed away from removing Sonic files even though it stated to do both files for removal. I had a Sonic file that related to HP; so, I was afraid to remove that file. This file was in my add/remove, too. Anyway, this means I didn't have a 100% uninstall from beginning to end, but I'm hoping all will be well.

I installed Creator 9 and it seems to be working, but I haven't burnt a disk, yet. I will practice more with it tomorrow.

Am I going to have problems with keeping Sonic files from the old versions?

I still have EMC 8 on one of my computers (Have three computers. One running EMC 7.5, another running EMC 8 and another running EMC9) and I have no idea why, but one would think that Roxio would have a utility in their program to remove the program sucessfully and with out botching up other programs installed on the computer. After checking the START--ALL PROGRAMS and browsing to the Roxio EMC 8 program, I thought there just might be such a remove program listed under "TOOLS". No such program listed.

I feel for all those that have done what most persons would do to get rid of a program and then find out it has crippled their computer. And although there are several different ways of getting rid of it (EMC 8), most persons have no idea what to do with or know about those cleanup utilities. And then even when one does choose one, they sometimes don't work. BUMMER !!!!

However, after a lot of frustrations and checking the Roxio forum, there is usually a solution for those that are having this problem. That's why this Roxio forum is so valuable.
