After a failed attempt to properly install Adaptec Easy CD Creator 3.01a on my Dell Insperion 1150 Laptop I encountered 2 shared file warnings that gave the option of ignoring that particular file or all the files and yada yada yada i'm sure your familiar with the dialog. i chose to leave them be. now when i start my laptop a small unidentifiable icon appears in my tray sporting this warning: 'CD Recording Software' will cause Windows to become unstable. Windows has prevented these drivers from loading. After clicking on the warning a Help and Support page states that Devices or Applications Disabled and underneath that it says Roxio Inc. It then lists active links to update Easy Creator, Media Player, and Real Jukebox which led me here. I'm guessing my question should be, "How do I find and remove these 'cd recording software' drivers and then find and reinstall the original drivers?" I have a portable SonyCDR/RW drive that i've buned many a disc with and i've used the burner software that came installed on my Dell. but recently i needed to use an application with the ability to create a bootable cd and following the suggestions offered by a tutorial, i found a cd with easy cd creator on it and unwittingly installed it. So what do you think, am i screwed? ~sickgypsy sacramento, ca

I think you're trying to install software that is not compatable with WindowsXP.

Your probably running XP on the laptop, easy cd isn't made for xp hence the warning. Does easy CD show in add or remove program list? If it does uninstall.
In device manager click the + next to DVD/CD-Rom drives, right click properties, click the driver tab. Then roll back driver. See if that fixes it.
If not right click each drive and uninstall. Reboot and see if your cured.

I used to support that software in Windows 95. I dont remember the exact year, but I do remember being about 60 pounds lighter and having hair.
It wont work on anything after Windows 98 if I remember correctly (but it has been so long, my memory isn't exactly clear).

In a sheer stroke of absolute luck and while passing out from laptop intoxication last night, i went stumbling around in the I386 folder and my handy dandy cursor sniffed out an adaptec driver. this was by chance and happened relatively quick. i just passed the cursor over each driver and glanced at the description and bingo...there it was. so i deleted it and rebooted and sure enough it did the trick. now i ca n get back to slipstreaming windows xp with service pack 2 and making them into one convenient bootable installation disk.(for my dad). hopefully things stay stable but, if not, you'll here from me. i know i made a dumb mistake out of impatience but thanks for at least trying to help. ~sickgypsy sacramento, ca
