ISO File

What is the value/use of an ISO file? I've made slide show/dvds with and without making the ISO file with no apparrent difference. The only thing I see is that the ISO file is significantly larger than the regular DSM file. Unfortunately the book doesn't help.

One advantage of creating an image file (iso file) is if the burn to the actual disc is unsuccessful (maybe a problem with media type, etc), you can burn again using the iso file.

An ISO (Image) file is basically a container that holds a complete image of a disc. I find it easier to work with for copying and for storage.

You .dmsm file is not a movie file. It is a set of instructions telling the software what you told it to do to the movie when it burns the movie. That set of instructions doesn't take up much room on your hard drive.

An ISO file comes in handy if you have to make many copies of your production, say, for family members or friends.

And to add to what the others have suggested, burning an ISO file is much faster that burning to disc (At least on my computer there is a very noticeable difference).

Frank,
creating the iso file will of course be faster then burning the same project directly to disc - you are only doing the encoding part of the whole burn process.
