I used (tried to use) "Slide Show Assistant". In #1 I add photos and add background audio. In #2 I use dissolve but I have also tried other options with no success. In #3 slide show perfectly. The problem comes when I press "Create Disc". This is where it hangs up. The program does not encode. It's not my DVD burner because the burner works with all other programs and it works with this program in the "Classic Creator" mode. Also, if I choose to save an image instead of burning a disk it hangs at the same place. I already tried uninstalling the program and reinstalling it. My computer is a Dell Dimension XPS Pentium 4 - 3.46 GHz with 2 gigs of RAM. My video card is "NVIDIA GeForce 6800 series GPU". My operating system is Microsoft XP Professional.
Any advice would be much appreciated…

Make sure you have the latest drivers for that card and have the latest version of DirectX 9c. And then the best solution is to use VideoWave for the slide show.
Once you have the project completed, add that to MyDVD and burn it to an iso (image) file and then copy the image file to a disc using Disc copier or Creator Classic. If the iso file is made properly, then the problem may be the firmware for your burner. If the iso won't complete, there is something in the project that the program doesn't like. Perhaps a music file or the timing of a transition vs the display time of an image.
You can get close by using VideoWave and when you project is completed, select output to file. Select mpg2 for DVD best. If the program hangs, note the time and see what is going on during that time. You should be able to find the problem that way.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.
