The good part of this so far is that I used the $69.99 price (after $30 off instant rebate) because I had been registering/activating all the OEM installed products (MyDVD LE etc) and so I saved another $10 and didn't have to deal with any mail-in rebates (in reference to the $20 mail-in rebate for past registered customers), plus, I had seen the "wandering" extra 10% off order if you buy now pop-up the other day and didn't have to wait more than 2 minutes in the cart today for it to show up, giving me another $7 off.  I had bought Sonic's MyDVD 6 Studio from their website last year (in April) and had spent $49.99 plus tax and shipping and it came to about $65-66 or so, and after this download order (no tax though it said there was for California and didn't specify shipment orders only) and all the discounts/rebates, it came to $62.99... a few dollars cheaper, and includes the "30 in 1" products compared to just the one with the "free Tivo To Go plugin" download...

Sorry about my ranting and raving from before, I figured out that while I had killed my virus and firewall programs for the download (and windows firewall was off too), there was still one component of one of them that was secretly running and I just had to end up finding it and kill it too (the name of the process wasn't exactly screaming the name of the program like it's other processes were).  So I just finished the downloads, and now need to reactivate my firewall and anti-virus software...  Will do the actual installation tomorrow, though I have already gone and made several copies of the downloaded files for storage on different hard drives and will make a disk with the files tomorrow or the day after too (You can never be too safe, especially for digital downloads and items that require a serial number inputted or key code of some kind)...

Keep the anti-virus and anti-malware off while you do the install.  Some of these will not allow the proper registration of some of the dlls.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

What you might do is take the download file and extract the files in it to a folder on your hard drive. And don't do this to the temp install location, use winzip or something similar and put it in it's own folder. Then make a DVD from that. That way you can install from that DVD and if you need to do a repair that option will come up for you and you won't have to go looking for files other than what's on the disc.

Yeah, that's what I plan on doing (I have a folder for the burned disk on my desktop and I have a temp folder I leave on my desktop for anything I plan to install- and install the items from there and use it as my place to extract any compressed files to in their own folder name) and I was going to make sure all spy/malware programs and anti-virus stuff was turned off (learned my lesson from my trying -or waiting at least- to download for 4 or 5 hours and then realizing it was because of one measly process that I hadn't caught that was stopping it...

What I would like to know is, since I have some of Sonic's/Roxio's OEM software on my computer, what I should do with it before I do the install?  Can I just install over it (will it uninstall it for me automatically/ or upgreade it for me during that process), or should I uninstall it myself beforehand?  And is there any way to save the programs (I think I have a disk that came with the system when I bought it from Dell that has the software on it, but I am not sure) just in case I want to (in the future) take the EMC 9 Suite and put it onto a different computer but then still be able to have the MyDVD LE, and Roxio Creator Home with RecordNow (Audio, Copy, and Data) and the DLA program to use?  I don't even know for sure *what* exact programs are included in this suite, I saw a post somewhere in these forums asking this question and no one had replied....

So any more tips on the install or answers to my questions would be great.  I am scanning my system for everything (virus's, spyware, malware etc) with several different programs to catch everything. I am also doing my registry scanning/cleaning, and creating backups of that stuff as well as checking my hard drives for errors...  I had recently done some small cleaning up of the system, and this time I just want to try and get rid of all the "leftovers" from uninstalled programs and such, maybe defrag/rebuild my registry and get my system in good shape before doing the install (which I should probably be doing later this afternoon  or evening).   So I will have time to read any replies that might show up before I do the install.

I am also going to be ordering a new video/graphics card today, so it should help with the demand that the software will be putting on my system (as I only have 128mb onboard Intel graphics right now). I can only get a PCI card though as I don't have the other slot types on my motherboard, so a 256MB PCI is what I am going for (unless I can find a decent and not too expensive 512mb, if they even have any for PCI).  I think I might go for the Visiontek Radeon X1300 / 256MB GDDR2 / PCI / DVI / HDTV / Video Card for $119.99 from TigerDirect unless anyone else can recommend something else (better) instead...

Thanks for all the help and support.            :)
