Hi,
Further to my earlier gripe about DVD burning failures (see post by Alison) I have to confess that I have had no further problems since my first few attempts.  
I did establish that a couple of discs were probably faulty but also . .
I erased some previously failed discs using EMC9/Tools/Erase Disc/Full Erase (it's slow but thorough) and, Hey Presto, they worked!  
This doesn't explain all my failures e.g. those that played only on the computer, but if it doesn't happen again (fingers crossed) who cares?
Before I go - note to guru James Hardin - yes, thank you, I did manage to get my applications activated - via the offline method described by another contributor.  In fact every problem I have had with EMC9 - and there have been several quite daunting ones - has been solved by reference to this discussion group so a big thank you to all you guys out there who are doing a great job.  
EMC9 is a great suite of programmes when it works properly!
