Could you tell me how to record streaming audio? I have Creative SBLive. In the Easy Audi Capture I tried picking different inputs (Line-in, Audilary etc,.,) but when I play the captured file I get nothing but silence??

Capturing streaming audio depends on your audio card.  The Creative Sound Blaster line has 'What you hear'.  Other sound chipsets have something similiar called 'stereo mix'.  Check for something like that.
Phenom X4 965 3.4Ghz, 4gig DDR3, LG 47" 3D TV, Hitachi 1TB HD, Seagate 500GB, LiteOn iHBS112 Bluray, TSSTCorp SH-222A DVD, ATI HD3300 IGP, VIA HiDef audio with Logitech Z5500 THX certified 5.1 speakers, Epson 4490 scanner, Canon 9000Pro MarkII printer, Sharp AL1551CS laser printer/copier, Sony TRV740 8mm digital, Canon HV20 HDV camcorder and Fuji S7000 for still photos, Win7 Home Premium
---------

sorry to butt in

...........and use Easy Media Capture from the Home>Applications utilities.

There are two good features to look at:
Look at the capture length settings for unattended recording of perhaps a radio show and
Look for preroll for capturing an audio file after it has already started.  The last one is great because to can listen to a music cut for a few seconds before you decide if you want to capture it.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

When you captured were the meters moving to indicate you were getting a signal on any of the inputs? On the Sound Blaster mixer make sure the inputs weren't muted. Also make sure that the record input matches what you're trying to use for Input Settings.

Got it. Thank you. Stereo Mix it is!! Also, the meters must be moving to indicate that the right source is slected. Thank you all so much for quick feedback.

hello Koolkat!

I am having the same problem you had. Re: streaming audio from the internet.  i have easy media creator 9.  I can capture sounds with the microphone but get nothing from "line in".  Not sure about "stereo mix"  or "sound blaster settings" where are they and how do I make changes there? .  can you please guide me?  Thanks, Eric

Line in is for connecting an external audio source (cassette player, record deck) to the computer

You will have to sue the utility program that came with your sound card to set the card for streaming audio. Not knowing the card, it's hard to tell you what they would be

thanks for he reply.  I assume you are refering to the sound card on my system.  I had no idea it had to be configured for streaming.  I may have the wrong sound card?  The one I have is called SoundMax HD Audio.
A part from that, on the Audio capture Roxio screen I have a choice of 2 settings, one is "microphone" (that works and does capture sound into a file) and the other is "line in".  Am I progressing to a solution?

That is an onboard audio chip, and I don't know if anyone has been able to get an onboard chip to capture streaming audio.  You might consider upgrading to a dedicated sound card.

Thank you Bruce.  I am beginning to see the light.  Looks like I have a very common sound card not adapted to for streaming capture (onboard chip means "not upgraded" I assume).  had no idea.  I was under the impression that all sounds come through the sound card and then all you need is the proper software (Roxio) to catch it.  Dell (my equipment) sells "Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic"  would that do it?

Best,

Eric

Any Creative card (Soundblaster) will do it - these can be picked up at just about any computer store going and all you have to do is open the case, put it in an empty PCI slot, screw it down and then install the drivers.
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

The problem is that the onboard chip is not routing the internet radio to one of the 2 inputs that your card uses (which it won't).As the others have said any of the Creative sound cards should have either "What you Hear" or Wav as one of the options in the dropdown for sources.Either one of those will allow you to capture the internet radio.I've done it many times and I use a Sound Blaster Audigy.

That's great information Steve. I captured audio for a long time before I realized I could place some other audio before the actual recording was to start. I'm not sure thought if everyone that has a sound card has that option.

Part of the Roxio program; it does not depend on the card's ability. As long as the card is active and selected, you can capture silence or sound, turn on the source and capturing will start when the time comes.  You can edit out that silence or other music using Sound Editor.

Any audio chipset following the AC97 standard has the capability to mix & record any audio stream you would want to record.  The problem is with the drivers provided by the manufacturer or something messed up with the configuration in Windows.  So technically, it is a software problem, not a hardware problem.  Most audio "cards", integrated on the motherboard or seperate card, have an AC97 codec or something meeting that specification.  Software "engineers" are causing the problems, not hardware engineers.

Before running out to buy a new audio card, I think anyone having these sort of problems should first try re-installing their current audio drivers.  If that doesn't help, find the latest & install those.  If that doesn't work, you may be out of luck until the manufacturer provides a proper driver so your only option may be to find a new card.
