Stuck On Writing Lead-In Again!

I was using Toast Titanium 12 and having varying success on the creation of DVD and Blu-Ray. I read that it could be a incompatibility issue so just upgraded to Toast 15 and it's still doing it. Both trying to use an img file and using toast to convert an mov file. It gets stuck on writing-lead it each time.

 

Suggestions...

I'm a PC/Roxio Creator user, not a MAC/Toast user, but it sounds to me like you might have a drive issue, or possibly a media issue. The easiest thing to try is a different brand of media. I don't know what you're using, but Verbatim and TDK/Taiyo Yuden media have usually been suggested as "good" media. Store brands have been known to have issues, as well has Memorex media. So that would be the first thing I would suggest.

 

I'm guessing you only have one drive in your system? If not, then are you seeing the same issue with both drives? Getting an externally connected (USB?) drive would be a way to check out your drive. If the "other" drive works, then your writer may have a problem.

 

Hopefully something there will help you find the problem.

Try creating a different project with different files. If that works there is a problem with a file in your project.

If you have Toast make a conversion of some sort before the actual burn process, then possibly the active connection between Toast and the optical drive may get lost, i.e. the drive may turn into sleep-mode /stand-by mode after a period of inactivity. Toast has been known to not be able to successfully re-connect without relaunching the app.

If this happens because of the Mac OS X App Nap feature (one possibility), then that can be avoided by setting Toast to prevent App Nap in the application's Get Info window.

Thanks, I will try these suggestions. I am using a writer that is connected via usb 3.0. I'm getting ready to try another software to see if it's the driver.

That also makes it easy to take the drive to a friend's system and see if the drive works okay there.

It worked! Not completely sure why. I went into FCPX and was able to successfully write the project directly to the disc. (Verbatim btw). I then went in and clicked prevent App Nap in the Get Info box.

 

Next I went back to Toast and attempted to write a disc image file... and it worked! It didn't have time to go in to nap mode before when I tried to write the disc image so not sure that played a role. Maybe FCPX somehow reminded it how to do it.

Update... this makes it even more confusing. I went back in and cut off the app nap button. Tried again and it didn't work. Thought OK that was definitely the issue. I clicked it back on and it still did not work. Went back to FCPX burned a disc easily no problem. Back to Toast.. not working. It has to be some problem with Toast... so now what????

Reminder - we (Digital Guru) are not MAC users so we can only offer similar suggestions from the PC world
