I have an AVI file that I successfully convert to mpeg using VideoWave8.  I've tested with several of the types of mpeg (1 or 2) and quality (good, best etc.) presented.  The resulting .mpg file can be played with Windows Media Player 10 & 11.  However, QuickTime doesn't like it.  Is there something special that needs to be done?

Thanks for any help.

QuickTime 7.1.4 (just downloaded from Apple).

I select the file, open with ...

For .mov files, and .avi etc., qt runs fine.

Note, this is the FREE QuickTime, not QT Pro

does it seem like it is a Quick time problem and not VideoWave8? it makes me wonder. anyway, how big is the AVI file? can it be viewed in another computer that uses the same version of quicktime?

edit: i think quicktime plays mostly .mov files, and that is all i used quicktime for. for all other types of media, i just use the WM player.

The original AVI is 3M.  It can be played with WMP 10 & 11.  It can also be played with RealPlayer 10 and Quicktime.

Using VW8, I create seveal flavors of mpeg.  The resulting file is 12MB.  Each of these files can be played with Windows Media Player, Real Player but not QT.  QT can play various mpeg1 & mpeg2 files I find on the web searching with Google on "sample mpeg2".

So, it could be that QT has the issue, but it only seems to be with things I create using VideoWave8.

I get a pop up window saying: "Error -2048  the file is not a movie file"

The suffix is .mpg, and the other software plays it just fine.
