Can anyone please help? I have a HP ProBook laptop running Win 10 Pro 64bits (Build 14393) and having problems when try to use Roxio Creator NXT3's Capture My Screen. I get the error code in the title of my post (i.e. 'Prepare Record Failed #0). This program has worked successfully in the past but to be honest, I haven't used it for well over a year and there has been many Windows updates applied to my PC since then.

 

I tried looking for the updates KB3126587, KB3134814, and KB3126593 in order to remove them from my PC, but they are not installed on my PC anyway. My PC is up to date with all Windows updates.

 

Can you help please?

That did work is several instances leading to posting that information. However... since then there have been a few saying that it didn't work.

 

I have one PC with a dual boot and it works OK on one and not the other :huh: (they were cloned drives but one has had many changes since then)

 

Another PC with dual boot and it works on both! (one of them is Win 10)

 

At this point I can say with complete confidence, I don't have a clue :lol:

 

But if anyone has suggestions, I have plenty to try it on.

Are you the administer of your computer account?

 

That may well be a long standing issue IF that particular program is the one developed by Corel.  There are a couple of user to user (forum) posts that have similar issues; some of them have related it to an audio situation.

 

Read this (link)   and this one also.  (both indicate that it might be an audio issue).

Have you ran a repair on the Roxio software?

I just tried the one in the first link Steve provided and now it works!

 

REGSVR32 c:\windows\system32\qcap.dll

 

No idea how it becomes randomly unregistered :lol:

 

Cut and paste that into your Start - Search (Win 7 and XP) or Ask me anything in Win 10

Thanks @cdanteek, but this wasn't the soultion to my problem!

 

Thank you @sknis, your suggestion was bang on right! I followed your second link, went into the Audio Settings within the Screen Capture and switched off the Voice setting (and not as it was suggested to switch off the System audio setting) and it worked! I don't need this to be On anyway as I don't need to capture microphone sounds!

 

Screen Capture is working again.......

Hi Jim,

 

I tried your suggestion about registering the DLL, but I get the following error instead now in Screen Capture: -

 

 

      Prepare Record Failed!!! #48

 

 

Any suggestions please?

 

Please note:- I can get the Screen Capture to work if I switch off the Audio Setting in Screen Capture (i.e. no Microphone sound), but it would be good to have it all working rather than having to do this.

Shahrokh: Never heard of that one but someone has to be patient zero :P
 
A little complex but I suggest this course:
 

Download and install the Revo Uninstaller. Then run it in Moderate Mode to remove any traces of Roxio.

Then turn off your Anti Virus, Firewalls, Registry Cleaners, etc.

Now insert your Roxio Disc.

Do the updates when offered at the start.

When the Install completes, turn your AV & Firewall back on and reboot.

 

Be sure to follow these steps in order without leaving anything out or getting creative -_-

Hi Jim,

 

I had already read those steps posted by you to help someone else and carried them out before posting my SoS!! :-)

 

I followed those step by step, but the error still occurred. Like I said in my last post, I can work around the issue by setting the Audio (i.e. Microphone) to Off, but I feel there may be a proper fix for this.

 

I hope someone has come across this exact problem and offer me a long-term fix.

Well I am not sure there is... Audio Drivers may be an issue in some cases and that is out of the hands of Roxio. Since Corel took over there does not seem to be any interest in fixing anything :(

 

Turning off Audio doesn't seem to be a downside. If I wanted to add live comments to a recording, I would do it post production in VideoWave! There I can compose my comments and rewind until I am happy - eliminate all those annoying "uh's" you hear on YouTube :D
