I can burn photo slideshows (.jpg files) ok but they will not playback on my Toshiba HDD/DVD Recorder Model RD-XS24SB (the message reads 'Disk Empty'). However, the slideshows play  ok on my son's recorder. Has anyone any ideas as to how I can solve this?

You posted in the trial version area but I don't think that is available yet (perhaps soon) so I moved it here  I guess that I should have moved it to the other subboard but I didn't want to move it again.

You left yourself open on this one.  :)  Get a newer player or use your son's.

Seriously, if the disc plays OK on your son's player then there was a good burn.  Look at your instruction manual for your player and see what the limitations are.  Some may not play home burned discs at all, some will play plus R and not dash R or vice versa, some will not handle RW discs.

I know that there are software updates for some recorder/players so your best bet is to contact Toshiba to see what they recommend and how to update the software on that device.

Are you burning to a DVD or a CD?

I have friend who bought a new DVD player and thought it would play both DVD +R and -R media.

WRONG.   His older player (same brand) would play both types but the newer one would only play +R (although the documentation said that it would play both kinds.)

So..... if you buy a newer player..... keep the receipt til you find out if it will play both types of media.
