Product Activation?!

a short time after i installed and started using roxio easy media creator 7. i found out that i have to activate features... for OTHER programs. the ones that came with my computer like Windows media player. why do i have to activate something for roxio when i open windows media player?! in case you dont know what im talking about, i try to play a mpeg file with windows media player and this pops up:

Check that the Roxio Media Player hasn't been set as default - try right clicking on the file you want to play and choose 'open with' and select WMP and see if that ehlps

i am right clicking on the file and selecting open with > wmp. also i cant go through the process b/c im on a proxied lan and dont have access to whatever its trying to connect to.

too make a long story short, cant. im still wondering why i have to register for roxio to play stuff in wmp. that is what i really want to know.

I don't know because I never had to do that. Product activation was required for the Cineplayer included in 7.5, but that doesn't look anything like the screen I saw to activate the player.
