Hi.
I am a 79 year old necomer to this game and have been bought EMC8 for Christmas to manage my camcorder videos.(Digi 8).
I have downloaded the  shots and defined the clips but I have spent many hours over many days trying to load the clips into the story line.  Am I expecting it to work like movie maker.  I have searched high and low in the help panels without success and any guidance woud be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance

Hi Frank...If I am understanding you right,  Click on Add new/Movie in Menu task screen......In the new window that appears with all your clips, photo's etc, select all by clicking on the top most video if all in the same folder and hold the shift key to click on the bottom video or just select using the ctrl key individually (Used to be able to drag and drop but no longer) ....click OK and you should see A Clip of one of your frames or pic in the menu screen.......Click once and it should highlight the clip in the menu screen........Go back to the task screen and click on : "Edit video" and it should open the storyline with all your clips.
This is how I do it and it works for me!!  I am using MYDVD where others may swear by Videowave which I am still confused on the difference between the two as they both appear to be the same once in timeline feature in MYDVD.
Hope it worked out for you.  I am sure if I am wrong that someone else will chime in.

You are correct. They are the same.  Hit Atl-Cntl-Del and look at the processes. MyDVD is actually videowave8.exe. :) Although you can 'edit movie' within MyDVD, you do NOT have the option to output to file in that mode. For instance, if you want to create a file for the internet or email, you must use Videowave. Some people just want to edit a file and NOT create a DVD. So....

Videowave is the video editor.
MyDVD is the DVD authoring application with some editing abilities.

FishingFrank - You didn't mention which application you were using so I'll cover Videowave 8.

Launch Videowave 8
To add a video FILE in its entirety, click on 'ADD PHOTO/VIDEO' in the top left pane.
Navigate to your file and click OPEN
This will add it to the first panel in the Storyboard or to the first available one. Sometimes you may be prompted as to where you want it depending on what you may have highlighted.

To add a 'scene', you must click on the 'SHOW MEDIA SELECTOR' to the left under TOOLS. Navigate to your file on the left of this dialog box and the scenes will appear on the right. You can select a scene and just drag to the Storyboard or Timeline. Media Manager will stay open until you close it.

Thank you for your reply, but I am still having no joy.The following is my sequence of events so I hope you have the patience to read it and offer further advise. You were correct to assume that I have EMC 8

I click on the Roxio desk top icon and the welcome panel appears.
Click DVD & Video, Click create or edit DVD project.
In the top left of the main screen it shows that My DVD8 is running
Click create or edit DVD project and a panel with My menu appears with a background of vertical multicoloured lines and a jazzy pattern appears.
I am unable to alter the menu background and sometimes there appears to be a window running in the background

Sorry but this has no effect. The screen turns black and then reverts to the coloured panel.
I'm beginning to suspect that the programme is faulty

What happenings when you click either of the buttons to the left?

Change Menu Style should bring up a dialog box of all the predesigned Menus that came with the software.

Change MEnu Background should bring up a Media Manager so you can choose a JPG or MPEG as a new background.

Thanks Russell for your continuing interest.
If I try to change the the menu style the screen goes black and then resumes in the coloured jazzy line effect.  I have now uninstalled and run updates on the graphic chip.  I will reinstall and post back when I have tried again.  I haven't downloaded updates yet as I am waiting for broadband. Thanks again

Ah.... Does sound like a video card problem.  EMC8 demands more from the video subsystem than previous versions.   I Hope that updating the drivers will help.

Hi Gary, My apologies for calling you Russell in my last post.
The state of play with my query is as follows. I updated the graphics chip and it has cured the problem of the menu change but I still cannot edit as I would like.  As I said on my opening query I'm possibly getting a bit long in the tooth for this advanced stuff.  I have downloaded my camera to the computer and have managed to define video clips but then seem to lose the file.  I have only been able to show the first clip or complete file in the first box of the story line and then I can proceed no further   Would it be too much to ask you to walk me through the process from there. Thanks in advance  Frank

If you'll forgive me for butting in, switch to timeline and you will see the entire video. This is where you will be doing most of the editing.  Since you are adding only one file, it will show up as only one file in storyline.

If you broke the video into scenes, go to add photo/video and then click on the "My Media" icon (further most on the left and navigate to the date where you did the scene split.  You should see all the scenes listed there so you can add the ones you want in the order you want.

Again sorry for butting in. :)

If I can put my penny worth in.

If you want to cut scenes etc I have a very easy piece of software called VideoRePlus which I have used to get rid of unwanted scenes and then used Roxio for the other functions it can give you (Menu Creation adding audio etc).  I know it is a bit more money to spend but I have found it very useful (it shows individual frames of the video)

You can also download a trial version

Just to add my 2 cents. VideoRedo is one that a number of the regulars here use for editing mpeg files to remove unwanted frames. It does work well for that on mpeg files.
