Is there anyone that is having luck converting any video format to PSP?

I'm having one heck of a time with EMC9. I've tried about everything I can imagine and nothing seems to work very well. I've tried the PSP format, Mpeg4 output.... rendering over to an AVI and then convertig to Mpeg4...using Sony's Image Converter2 and EMC9.

First up, the PSP format flat out doesn't do any good. I understand there's some kind of Knowledge Base article that says to use MPEG4 format. That doesn't work either. The rendering happens, the output files are created in the correct naming conventions, but the PSP sees both file types (PSP and Mpeg4) as corrupt.

Second try, if I convert my source over to an AVI or an Mpeg2, and then pass it through either Sony's software or EMC9, the file is recognized and plays - but the video quality is AWFUL, and the audio is way out of sync. Plus it takes 2 times the length of the video to do all the file converting (one hour video takes 1 hour to get to AVI, then 1 hour to get to PSP or Mpeg4 format).

So how has anyone solved this problem with EMC9? It just seems to be a mystery to me. I should be able to select my TiVO or other video files, select a compression quality, and EMC9 should convert that file over to a PSP viewable file that is of good video quality and the audio in sync. What am I missing?

I tried once with success but only to test.  Don't have a PSP (son will soon).  I only tested a very small clip-mpeg to PSP but it did seem to take longer than I thought it would.  I wouldn't go thru the trouble just to watch something I might enjoy on a 3" screen!

Did you read this article ?  It may not be your problem but I hope it helps anyway. Once you are there, perhaps you can search for something more on target.

Yep tried that, it flat out doesn't work. The file is seen on the PSP, but the video format is unreadable. Something is just not right.

Has anyone had any luck converting DVD's to PSP?  I am running FirmWare version 3.01 on my PSP which is the latest version out and is supposed to play the new AVC format.

When I select the "PSP" option in Creator 9 and copy it to my PSP, it can see the movie and the information, but when I try and play it, I get the "This video cannot be played." error message.  I copied the MAQ#####.mp4 file to the /MP_ROOT/101ANV01/ location on the PSP, which I know is correct because I've downloaded sample mp4 files to this same location and they have worked.

I have also tried the MPEG-4 option in Creator 9 and copied that MAQ#####.mp4 file.  But when I view it on my PSP, the file says "Unsupported data".

So, I'm looking for the answer on converting DVD's to PSP format and having it work.  So far everything I've tried in Creator 9 is not working.

AVC is MP4 so just use Videowave to output to the AVC format.

Unfortunately, that makes no sense to me.  This is the first Roxio product I have purchased, so I have to say I'm not 100% familiar with all the options yet.

What I'm looking for, is the step by step instructions for converting a DVD to PSP format....that works.

Do I have to convert the DVD to DivX first, then run thru the Videowave program?  Can Videowave read a DVD?  When I open Videowave and try to access my DVD, it shows no video files or anything.

In Creator 9, there is an option to convert DVD to PSP....but obviously it is not working.  Is there an update to that program that makes this work?

Again, I have a DVD (actual disc) that I would like to "convert" to PSP format that will work.  So far everything I have tried does not work....so if you or someone has gotten this to work, what steps did you go thru.

Hi,

I had the same problem with PSP video. Make sure you put the file in the folder labled 100ANV01  I also just read, you can put the file into a folder called VIDEO at the Root level of your video stick. I have not tried this yet but I will, you will need version 3.0x on your PSP.

Try PSP Video 9 instead, it's free and works much better.

FYI. I bought and just uninstalled EMC9. The quality of Video compression, just wasn't good enough for me. Too rough around the edges of video, even at 9Mbs. The problems with install, lack of Roxio support and constant hang ups and crashing just got too frustrating. On the positive side, I'm now a pro at installing and removing this thing. Thank god I have Norton Ghost and several backups! I use more reliable applications, unfortuneatly they are not integrated like EMC9 was, they never crash though!

Update.

Just for the heck of it, I put EMC9 back on my CPU.

Does not matter what you do, a PSP file just can not be created using EMC9. I tried about 20 different encoding schemes, not one was able to play the file on my PSP. Tried again using Video 9, worked perfectly.

Amazes me, Roxio releases a product which is so buggy. Can't import VOB file into any of the programs either. The least they could do is put out an update!

Just reconfirms my decision to remove it.

I had issues at first as well. I then got it to work last night. I used Disk Copier and output as Format PSP. I noticed as it was encoding it showed it as MPEG-4 (H.264/AVC). Thats exactly how it read. It creates two files. An *.mp4 and a *.THM. THM I believe is something to do with thumbnail images. I then copied both of those to the PSP video folder. And it worked.

My son did update his PSP last night to the most current release as well though. That was 02/21/07. So that may have helped. But it did work. None of the other formats worked. I tried H.264/AVC by itself and MPEG-4 by itself but neither worked. But as I indicated as it was encoding it said MPEG-4 (H.264/AVC).  huh.gif

BTW file I converted was a MPEG2 from my Sony DCR-SR100 camcorder.
