Why do all files that I burn to a disk with RecordNow 8 or Easy CD & DVD 6 turn into Read-Only files once they are on the disk??

Have you ever tried to change a file that is on a CD? It won't happen. If you copy them back to the hard drive, no problem.

Once a disc has been "burned" you cannot change the attributes. But like Bruce suggested, you need to copy the files back to your HD and then look at the properties of that file or files and then remove the read only attributes. Then you can edit or change the file using an appropriate program, depending on what type of file it is.

Actually, with XP all files copied to the HD from optical media will always become Read/Write files! XP clears the Read Only even if that is what you want.

Hi ---
If I'm copying a file that was not 'read only' prior to burning, and it's being copied on to a re-writable CD, why does EMC change the file attribute to 'read only' on the CD? I should be able to edit the file on the re-writable CD, right? If so, I can't edit if it's been changed to 'read only'. So what am I missing? Thnx.

NO! Read the posts in this 4 month old thread. It isn't EMC that does it. It will happen with any non- packet writing, burning program.

RW only means you can erase the ENTIRE disc and start over. It is NOT a "great-big floppy-disc". Assuming it is a wondaerful way to permantly LOSE all the data on it.

This post is pinned to the top of this Forum (too busy to notice what is pinned, eh?) - try reading it carefully.
