:) I have brand new Dell Precision with 2.4 ghz Pentium, 1 gig ram, XP Pro with all service packs, IE6 and whatever video card came with it.  Roxio 9 will not start any video stuff with the message "Video card fails diagnostic"

It took me two tries to load and I uninstalled all other DVD burning software and installed DirectX 9.  No luck.  Took me over an hour to get registered for this forum.  I am totally disgusted with Roxio.  I give up.  Fortunately the store where I bought it (Nebraska Furniture Mart) will give me a refund.

I am sorry I wasted my precious time with this buggy product

your video card doesn't fully support DX 9 or the driver is not utilizing it properly... do you have the latest driver for it? is it a onboard video card?

the "bug" is on your video card itself...

You didn't indicate a model number so I can't point you to the exact location but go here and download and install the video drivers for your machine.  Looks like there are several so make sure you select the correct one. If you are not sure, you can enter your service tag number.
Regardless of what I say about computer maintenance, there is no need to defrag a solid state hard drive.

I have had that same error notice on my EMC 9 every time I use it too. I have upgraded my video card and ALSO made sure that the firmware and driver was the latest, and I still get the same notice. JUST CLICK O.K. and continue using your EMC 9. I have used EMC 9 now in Videowave, MyDVD, Sound Editor, etc. and have never had a problem using my graphics card, regardless of the notice.

I am also getting the same error.  This program is crazy!
I have a video card from ATI called radeon x300
I went to there website and it says that it supports fully the directx9 support
I also have the latest update.
So what should I do now?  I keep getting the error
video card diagnosis failed, can not start application.
I also can not see any video.
Thanks for help

Jeffrey, uninstall your ATI drivers and Control Center, if you have that installed.  Reboot, and go to your C: drive, and delete the ATI folder, and reboot again.

Now, install the newest ATI drivers, (and Control Center, if you want) reboot, and see if you have the same problem.
Life is good!

yup real piece of junk, no support just leaves you out there hanging. I had to install a $125. video card before my system would function. Roxio does not nor will not tell you what you need for the program to work. I has Roxio Creator 7.5 and the system worked fine. I've got othe problems with the software but another place for that.

If there's a 'real piece of junk' around, I'd go for the video card there quicker than anything else

Dell are renowned for building PCs down to a  price (and still make a profit) - one thing they do is fit low grade graphics systems that just can't handle demanding software.

The cure would be to fit a new card (presuming the board has an AGP slot). If it hasn't, then you will have to hunt round for a good quality PCI card (which are becoming harder to find these days)

Also, Roxio DOES tell you what is required in term,s of graphics - this is from the website in 'System Requirements':

• 1024x768, 16-bit color graphics card; 24-bit or 32-bit true color recommended
• DirectX 9 or higher compatible sound card and graphics card

And if you are running those minimum requirements and/or better and you get the same error screen, then what ???
