When my version 7 Easy Media Creator product started to fail (would not show the titles on the menu page) and after uninstall-reinstall and no success - upgraded to version 9.  On first attempt to burn DVD via MYDVD received this error "an unrecoverable device error occurred. error while encoding movie 1"  It was a project with 3 titles.  I also got the same error when I tried to burn just one title.    
I upgraded my video driver, called tech support -- NO HELP on solving the problem --- anybody else with the same issue??
Finally uninstalled IE7 and reinstalled EMC7 .... Would like to get EMC9 working
