I just purchased and installed Roxio 9 and installed last nite. When I re-booted I was greeted with no wallpaper background on my desktop and the XP default task bar/start menu and screen saver was set to none. I selected my background, set the screen saver that I wanted and wanted to switch to the classic start menu mode. The start menu mode classic was already selected and i ended up having to go into display and selecting appearance to select classic windows mode. I re-booted... and guess what.... no background, no screen saver and back to the XP style start menu and folders. I did a rollback only to find that my anti virius program was disabled and that I needed to connect to them to verify my subscription... that was not a problem to do, but lordy..... Why would Roxio 9 screw with my personal settings ? Going to put Roxio 9 on the shelf to remind me what a bad purchase I made. :-) :)

You would be the only this has happened to… That effectively rules out V9 as the source of the trouble.

Wow.. do I feel special or what ? I didn't even get to the point of finding out what did and did not work in it. Thankfully I'd made a back up of my Sonic v7 as the label program was also screwed, simply missing a config file due to the install, but none the less. I don't know... installed it, found the problems, then used add/remove to get rid of it.. and reinstalled after various re-boots to find the same issues... hp pavilion m7463w, NVIDIA geforce 7300 LE video card, 300 gig HD with media center, 500 gig external HD networked to a hp pavilion 563w, the media center computer was purchased in August of 2006, up to date with all service packs and patches... Not running IE 7. I checked program files after the last remove to find a whole clutter of files left on my HD... 5-6 gig in fact... jpgs, iso's, txt, and a variety of other files to long to list, but no exe's. Once I did the rollback, prior to the rox 9 install was when I found out that my AV was disabled... I've gotten that taken care of, just one more of those itchy things to deal with. I'll wait to hear a response from Rox on it... :)

By waiting to hear, I trust you mean you have contacted Roxio Support and have a ticket open?

If not you may be in for a long wait as this forum is not considered Tech Support and few from Roxio stop in here.

I don't have the Media Center but some of the other gurus do and I am hoping they will see this and chime in.

Bleh... Yes... I've got a ticket in with Roxio... I've disconnected every device I can.. made sure that all drivers are up to date, which they were... and have re-installed 2 more times... disconnected every device i have on my machine except the essentials i've done the defrag, scan disk everything, made sure registry was cleaned... my last time resulted in me keeping my background/wallpaper ( i think only because I selected one of win's backgrounds.. but I was once again switched back to XP style theme... I selected classic mode again and disabled everything that was running AGAIN... cept the essentials, rebooted and guess what... back to XP theme... I don't like the XP theme... but none the less, I don't know why EMC9 insists upon changing it.. Un-install still leaves 'crud' on my HD ... Carl :)

EMC 9 isn't changing your background theme. What resolution are you running?

1280X1024 32 bit ... I finally once again restored my express labeler program back to a functioning state... no thanks to EMC9 and its request to overwrite the ( Express labeler V2.1.0.28 ) proggy. Funny that I fire up the computer every day and it does not go to XP display mode.. but once I install EMC9 upon reboot it goes to XP theme.... upon removal.. I stay in the classic mode.. I'm not being nasty bout it... jest seems funny / bizarre that once I install it... I get thrown to XP mode theme and even with every re-boot, after changing it to what I want.. it goes back to XP mode theme.. perhaps there is some insight of my resolution that is altering this that you can provide... my 10 cents is... it shud not matter what resolution your in... it can recommend one.. but if not... it shud be left at that .. and the consumers selection should be left non effected.

What is the usual wait time for a response after you open a ticket ?

It sounds like you have a multitude of programs running at start up. Maybe try to eliminate the majority of those, as they are not needed, and see if it makes a difference.

Zup no... i don't... gone to run/msconfig and shut down every thing that was non essential..... as i said... unplugged all external devices as well... regular consumer shud be able to install this with out any prolems .... I have gone thru major attempts to get this resolved and have not gotten a reply back from tech support... and even a HP dude tryng to upgrade shud not have a issue with his lightscribe software not working ... even tho its attached to sonic..

I'm not being rude... I have put in my ticket to roxio... if i do not hear a response back from them.. i will advance my concerns to higher levels.. if i don't get a response/help from there , the software gets put on a shelf so I can see what a bad purchase I made...

I know that you aren't being rude. I am a regular consumer, and I did not experience the problems that you have, when installing the software.

sometimes emails/postings come across that way... Jest making sure u knew that ...

yes i've done msconfig and shut down everything that was non essential... even a few that it indicated were... jest to make sure... I've not gotten a response one back from tech support ..5 days of posting...... not even a indication that they have rec'd my ticket #... I have NEVER encountered software that forces settings to be changed as this one does.. Nor have I encountered tech support that is so hard to contact with out a pay per feature... I tried the chat thing.. of course it said i'd have to pay for that function... so I guess.. on the shelf it goes.. jest glad once again that I was able to re-construct my Sonic label program so I cud use it again .. ( initial roxio install deleted my original install of Sonic )

THE ONLY SETTING that it will ask you to change is video resolution when you run certain apps like Videowave/MyDVD. It is clearly stated on the web site and on the box that 1024X768 is minimum requirement for some of the apps. EMC 9 should not ask you to change any other setting nor should it change any settings without you knowing.

Hi... I get no askings... it just does it... changes me from win classic to win/xp mode upon each reboot I've gone into msconfig and set many of the usual start up proggy's to NO... leaving the ones that need to start up as yes.. as yes ... I invite anyone to come visit.. have a BBQ steak and see what happens when I install it . I'm on my 10th day and no response from roxio.. its said i have alot of prog's running.. perhaps i do.. but they are all progs that were running b4 roxio was introduced...most being mswin MCE stuff ... those have been shut down ( the ones I can ) prior to a new install and still i have the problem where it changes my video settings with out asking upon reboot.

It isn't the Roxio software changing your desktop to the XP theme. It is something in your MCE stuff that is doing it.

I would love to drop by and have a BBQ steak, especially if it is warm where you live. I like a small New York Strip. :)

Why don't Windows Display Properties, Appearance settings apply to EMC? For example, in Windows Display Properties, I have "Windows and buttons:" set to "Windows Classic style". In all windows except EMC windows, I have square buttons in my Menu Bar for Minimize & Maximize -ing the window. EMC windows use round buttons & have a 3D look. I don't use, & have never used, any sort of "skins".

I'm glad to see that someone else is having similar issues

Dude.. I have a simlar issue... every time I install emc9 it forces me to win xp theme.. regardless of what theme I have as my default.... currently the xp classic... Not sure this is similar to your issue or not.. but I'm very dismayed that emc9 forces this upon me... I don't use skins and never have .... I install with xp classic and then reboot as requested and then i'm greeted with that fatty flobby xp round bloated buttons all over everything ... I hate it... I've left tech support messages since before the 1st of the month and have NOTHING... other than they keep closing my ticket.

I'm so 'friggin glad' that there is someone else reporting this... as I was thinkin I was the lone wolf out there. !!!!
