I have been using EMC 7.5 for a while and it has been an awesome product!

As of recently, last week, I can't run the program.  If I click on the normal icon to bring up the home page app, I receive an error:  SEE JPG.

If I run any program directly, I receive the Microsoft error that wants to send the data to Microsoft.

I have searched the database and located several incidents about this error, BUT they relate to Version 9 and having services started and not started.  They also refered to firewall issues, and I have disabled any XP firewall and also the data execution.

I have uninstalled it several times, gone through the registry and deleted ANYTHING that had to do with Roxio and reinstalled.  Same thing.

Any assistance would be appreciated.  Thanks

Les

Did you by chance install IE 7 thru Microsofts updates (manually or automatically)?
If so, uninstall it and roll back to IE 6. IE 7 breaks EMC 7.5

I installed IE 7 during an attempt to fix it :)  I hadn't installed anything when it quit working.  I rebooted one day and OUCH!

BUT, I will try uninstalling it and puting back in 6.

Let ya know how that works for me.

Nope.  Uninstalled IE7, removed Roxio, Reinnstalled it and same thing.

I have suddenly run into the same runtime error message.  EMC 7.5 was working fine a week ago (and a year ago) but since then I loaded Norton Systems Works 2006 and some XM Radio Online software and then I couldn't launch EMC.  I previously had allowed an upgrade to IE 7 but when I encountered problems with Roxio, I rolled that back to IE 6 and EMC ran fine.  I have read the string here but don't know if there has been anything that worked to solve the problem.   I have tried to run EMC with Norton Anti Virus 2006 disabled but still got the same error message.  I can't run repair from the disk and from the comments of others it sounds like an uninstall and reinstall doesn't work either.  What is a guy to do?

Thanks for any guidance.

I'd try uninstalling the radio program first and see if that restores EMC. If it does, that's your problem. Norton - at  a guess I'd say that's less likely

The rest - basically, keep Internet Explorer 7 and Windows Media Player 11 off your computer

Those two 'upgrades' have caused more grief to a lot of programs than some trojans running loose

A fix - best ask MS. It was their stuff that caused all the problems

Thanks. I will try to find the radio progam but your mention of Media Player brings to mind a prompt to update what I thought was WMP 10 that failed to install.  It wasn't identified as WMP 11 but I wonder if it was somehow a partially completed upgrade that is conflicting with EMC.  I will try to play around with it and also try a restore and report back but welcome any other suggestions.

I rolled back to WMP 10 via the Add/Remove Programs and was then was able to launch Roxio 7 but couldn't upgrade to Roxio 7.5 because I couldn't find either of my cd drives!  I tried to reinstall the hardware (uninstalled the drivers as per Microsoft, then ran Add Hardware Wizard) but it failed.  All I could do was to go to a Windows restore point before loading Roxio 7 and reboot - my DVD drives reappeared but of course the Roxio program was gone.  I repeated the attempt to reinstall Roxio 7 and again my DVD drives disappeared.  Is this a Roxio issue or somehow related to Norton Systemworks 2006?  I am at a total loss.

I am afraid that isn't my problem - Windows doesn't see my cd/dvd drives after EMC 7.0 loads ... I can't find them in My Computer.  I am forced to use System Restore to recover access; even uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers for the drives doesn't seem to allow me to regain access to them, and then of course I lose the EMC installation during the System Restore.

Try this, then:

It is a Windows thing, losing drives when installing/un-installing burning software…

If the drives are still listed in the Device Manager, delete them then carefully follow this fix:

"Upper/Lower Filters:

a. Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key
b. Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or clicking the "+" next to it.)
c. Expand the "SYSTEM" Key
d. Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key
e. Expand the "Control" Key
f. Expand the "Class" Key
g. Look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
h. Highlight this key by left clicking once on it
i. On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete"
j. Exit the registry by clicking on the "X" in the top right hand corner of the screen

Reboot your computer"

I will give it a shot the next time I screw up the courage to reinstall EMC (I lost it of course when using System Restore to recover my drives) and let you know how whether this works.  Strange, though, that I didn't have this problem when I first installed EMC 7/7.5 on this PC or when I reinstalled it immediately after rolling back IE 7 to IE 6 - my EMC problems seemed to arise after installing Norton Systemworks 2006 and Windows Media Player 11 (now rolled back to 10).  But maybe there is something else going on...
Thanks.
