I purchased EMC 9 via internet from Roxio's home page. I captured approx. 15 min. of video, and I'm still in the process of EDITING. Yesterday I added background music to some panels, have Native audio only in others, and some have both. Heres the problem:  Sometimes when I playback on preview screen I have both native and background sound. (The panels I'm referring to have BOTH). Sometimes the SAME panels only play native audio, and sometimes no sound at all plays. FOR INSTANCE: this morning I got back on my PC , went to the saved video which I am still in process of editing,  hit play button on preview screen, and the video AND audio played fine. I hit pause or go to start button and hit play again and NO sound at all??? Why is this happening?  My PC has : Intel pentium 4 2.53 GHz
                                                     512 MB RDRAM
128 MB DDR ATI Radeon 9700 TX with TV-OUT and DVI
120 GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive (7200 rpm)
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 THX sound card
PS. I still have sound (when I click on speaker ON BOTTOM TASK BAR NEXT TO CLOCK) I hear "ding" sound when I ajust volume there..
                                                            Thanks for any replies...

Try clearing the Proxy files, and see if that makes a difference.  In VideoWave, click on Tools/Options, and click on Clear, to the right of Proxy files.

Bruce,   I cleared the proxy files like you said and even restarted my pc. When I got back into Videowave, the sound and video was jittery. I hit pause for a few seconds, then play again and it would be nice & smooth then get jittery. So I hit pause again..waited...then hit play and it would be smooth for about 10 seconds. Then after a bit of this, it smoothed out and stayed real nice. THEN....it went back to acting like I described in my PREVIOUS POST.  What else do you suggest?

Should I or Can I disable Media Manager and still edit videos and pictures ect.. How would I disable it?

Should I disable Drag to Disc? If so How..

In windows task Manager, I have 59 processes running. Should I end any of these processes? If so, which ones (please be specific)

I was just wondering if these things are bogging my PC down....??

Thanks for ANY suggestions...

When editing very long files, Videowave/MyDVD can take awhile to CREATE the proxy files that are used for editing and preview. This takes a lot of CPU and hard drive resources so playback can be jerky or jittery until these proxy files are completely created.  When I load a new video file, I don't even try to edit or preview until ALL hard drive activity has stopped. Yes, that can be awhile, but has made things easier for me.

Gary, when you say LOAD NEW FILES, do you mean selecting a previous panel or next panel WITH VIDEO ALREADY IN THE PANEL to preview it on preview screen? Or do you mean adding new captured video to current production?    I haven't added any NEW captured video in days..   Thanks for your input..

PS  By clearing proxy files as Bruce suggested, am I loosing any nessessary editing I did to the production. Also , how often should I clear proxy files.

When are proxy files added or created

Should I do anything I mentioned in my previous post..  Bruce must still be in bed, haven't heard from him yet today...lol

Not in bed.  Was up early and gone to the dentist before 8:30. :)  You will not lose any of your editing by dumping the proxy files.  The program will create any necessary proxy files for you production, but it will also keep them even when you work on a different production.

As far as I know, the proxy files are never flushed until you do it manually.

The first thing that I would do is go to Start/Run, type in msconfig, click on the Startup tab on the next screen, uncheck the boxes for any startup items that you don't need, click on apply, then reboot, and put a check in the box in the window that pops up when you get back into Windows.

I have only 4 boxes checked in the msconfig Startup tab.  If I do the Alt-Ctrl-Del excercize, I have 45 running processes.  45-50 is the norm for Windows XP.  You could try disabling some of those processes, but I don't know which ones to mess with.

Some of them, you can change to manual or disabled in Services, under Control Panel/Administrative Tools.

I went to msconfig   I have 26 items and all are CHECKED
I have NO CLUE which ones to uncheck...
If I UNcheck an item, and it screws something up, will that item still be in msconfig>startup so I can REcheck it ??

You can uncheck the first 8 and Microsoft Office, for sure.  Uncheck them, click Apply, then OK, then reboot, and try the others, one by one, with reboots in between.

I went into msconfig>startup procedure as you mentioned and I found  a few other steps you didn't mention, so I went to Control Alt Delete, and ended the mentioned processes there. It didn't help. When I got back into Videowave, I waited till it got done CREATING PROXY FILES as ggrussel suggested in his reply and waited till all hard drive activity stopped. Then I clicked play, and it was nice and smooth with ALL audio till it got to about the sixth panel (maybe 5 min.)  which lost its audio. Went to beginning of production, clicked play, and nice & smooth till that same panel, no audio. Sometimes I click on a later panel, then right  back to the one with missing audio  (even though it shows having native and background music in Timeline view) it will then work. Its not always the same panel that suddenly is missing audio. Sometime  jogging the wheel in preview screen then click play gets it to work again. Sometime I click play and NOTHING HAPPENS. So I click on a different panel then click back to the one where NOTHING HAPPENED and click play and I get VIDEO again but still no audio. Sometimes going into audio editor for whichever track is missing audio (even though timeline view shows it has audio waveform)  click play to hear the audio, make absolutely NO changes, then click OK makes it work again. The next time I get into videowave, the tenth panel may have no audio or maybe just have native audio and no background and (the panels that had no audio BEFORE, now have audio )...I really like this program, but its startin to wear on me with this problem...Hope you can help  figure it out. Thanks for any replies.....

UPDATE ON MY SOUND PROBLEM:

First I did a disc clean AND defrag on my PC. Then when I open EMC 9, I let everything load as Gary suggested until all hard drive activity stops (get a cup of coffee to sip on while editing : )   ).  Then I open videowave and let that all load. When I select a panel to edit, I let that load. Every time I actually EDIT something, I give the hard drive a few x-tra seconds to act.  Everything works GREAT when I proceed this way. This is really awsome. I still have a lot to learn, so you may hear from me again !  Thanks for all your input...
