Almost 2 years ago I bought EMC7, used it to create DVD's of kids and trips. I liked the way it worked, wished it had a little more to it. Few months ago I bought a Canon DC20, burns direct onto DVD. Of coarse new software is loaded, MYDVD. Like some fo the features, miss most from EMC.
My question is, EMC will not allow me to import the files off the DVD, will EMC 9 allow me to do this, and if so, which is a better application ?

With EMC 9 you can capture from a non encrypted DVD to your hard drive.

My readings about Canon DC20 say the included software is MyDVD program (Sonic?) and the camcorder connects via USB.

Yes it does. Although MYDVD is a Sonic Software, Roxio now controls the software. The dilema I am having is to get MYDVD 8 or EMC 9.

EMC9 is a suite of media applications which include MyDVD 9 among others.

Does that video camera use the small DVD's for recording?  If so, EMC 7 should be able to capture from that disc, or you can copy the disc to your hard drive and capture from the hard drive.

If neither of those processes work, you can try changing the .vob file extensions in the Video folder, to .mpg and try bringing them into VideoWave.

EMC 9 is a much more robust program than EMC 7.

Indeed it uses the small disks for the recording. I have played around for 2 weeks with EMC 7 trying to capture the files, with no luck. Granted I am not an expert, but know enough, so I think. I will try to change the ext. of the files to see if that works, however EMC 9 allows me to have more fun making the DVD movies, so regardless I will be making the upgrade.

Make sure that those discs are finalized.  If they are RW discs, that may be the reason you had trouble capturing from them.
