Dell Latitude D800 notebook with SigmaTel audio; Roxio 9; using Audio Capture while streaming from an Internet source. The two options in the Input list were Microphone and Stereo Mix; I chose the latter.
Recording seemed to work correctly; my issue is that I don't want to listen to the stream while recording it. But it seems the recording volume depends on the speaker volume; if I lower or mute the speakers the recording level goes down or off accordingly.
Is this just how life is, or is there something I could do about it?
TIA...
Audio capture with speakers muted?

I am not sure if you can do anything about it, but I am sure that 999 out of 1,000 folks who post about audio stuff, complain because they can't hear while they are recording. LOL It isn't recording streaming audio, though.
Life is good!

The two shouldn't have anything to do with each other. One (recording) is an input function and the other (listening) is an output function.
Most people that complain say they can't get the Sigma Tel to record at all.if you can then I'd live with it.

Yes, from browsing this forum I got the impression my issue would not be greeted with much sympathy
Well, I have a workaround: I just plugged something in the earphone jack

Has nothing to do with sympathy, most often the chipset just won't do what an add-in card will do because of lack of input sources.
Glad you found a way around it.I'm still wondering why an input and output would clash with each other. Now if what you're hearing is actually a monitor of your input source and you turn down the volume then I can see the volume going down and also the source being turned down as well.
Have you tried going into Windows Volume control and muting the line in or something similar?
