I recently upgraded from Easy Creator 6.x to 9.x Suite.  Once installed, I noticed when trying to open My Computer, the My computer dialog will hang or perform very poorly (generally not at all).  I also noticed that 'right clicking' on the My Computer icon is also very slow to respond....or not at all.

Thinking the problem might have something to do with one of my drives (or network)...because that is what I am trying to access via My Computer...I started looking at my hardware devices listed in the Window's Device Manager.  I found a new listing under the DVD/CD-ROM drives:  "ROXIO DVD-ROM EMULATOR SCSI CdRom Device".  I only assume this device was installed by Easy Media Creator 9 Suite.  After disabling/uninstalling the device, everything is back to normal.  Meaning....accessing My Computer response quickly...as does all of the other hangs or slow reponses I was getting.  However, everytime I reboot my PC, the 'Roxio DVD-ROM Emulator' returns.

Questions:
1.) Why is this device causing these problems?; 2.) What does this EMULATOR device do? 3.) Is there a way to keep it from installing everytime I reboot?; 4.) Which Roxio products/features use this device?

My System:(no overclocking)
Asus P5W DH Deluxe 975X; Intel® Core 2 Duo E6600; Windows XP SP2 (and all latest patches); Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2GB; ATI All-In-Wonder X1900 PCI Express 256MB DDR3; Three WD Caviar SE WD2500KS 250GB; Plextor PX-760A DVDR; Adaptec 29160 SCSI controller; HP Ultrium 448 LTO tape drive; Epson V700 Scanner; Minolta Dimage Elite 5400 II film scanner.

Software:  Avid Liquid 7.10; MS Office XP Pro; Cyberlink Power DVD (6x); Oracle 9i, ESRI GIS products

For now I will have to uninstall this device (everytime I reboot) in order for my PC to perform properly.

Please help.....

I have not used it much and didn't even install it in V9 but as I recall the user has to go through a couple of very noticeable steps to mount a CD/DVD in the emulator. It does not happen by accident!

I would go into Add/Remove Programs and select Change to remove it from the installed Suite.

I tried the Add/Remove tool in the Control Panel but only found the following Roxio Apps:
- Roxio Content 9
- Roxio Drag-to-Disc
- Roxio EAsy Media Creator  9 Suite

When I choose to change/uninstall the 'Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 Suite' , I was only given the following list of Roxio tools that I could remove/change...the 'Roxio DVD-ROM Emulator' was not in the list.
- Creator Classic
- VideoWave & MyDVD
- Disc Copier
- PhotoSuite
- Roxio Backup
- Label Creator
- SightSpeed
- Media Import
- Media Manager
- Music Disc Creator
- Digital Home
- Sound Editor
- Easy Audio Capture
- Disc Image Loader
- XingTones

Does anyone know which of the above Roxio tools uses and/or installed the Roxio DVD-ROM Emulator?

OK, I have never used a Disc Emulator of any kind, but does it not set up a virtual drive of some kind?  To get rid of that virtual drive, don't you just go into My Computer, right click on that drive, select delete, and poof, it is gone?

I've never done it that way. I've always had to start Disc Image Loader and create or remove the drive using it. I've never had it create a drive on it's own.

The Roxio DVD-ROM Emulator does create a virtual drive (Drive L: for me).  I was able to delete it by uninstalling it from within the Hardware Device Manager.  However, everytime I reboot my PC, the virtual drive re-appears...and once again starts causing my PC to hang when accessing My Compuer.

I hope this virtual Roxio DVD-ROM drive is not core to the product...but instead only a bi-product of one on the tools that comes with Roxio 9.  The trick will be to find which tool(s) uses this virtual DVD-ROM drive.

My next step is to start testing every tool in Roxio (a major pain) or remove the product and only install one tool at a time...until I find the tool that installs the Roxio DVD-ROM Emulator....what fun :<(

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Open MSConfig (from start menu/run) and look for it - all you need do then is untick it to stop it loading up
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed

Use the Disc Image Loader to uninstall it. That is how you propably installed it initially.

As has been noted already, it's the Disc Image Loader program that you need to open and remove the drive. that's the program that is used to create virtual drives like that. Set it to not create any virtual drives. Once that's done, and you've rebooted without the virtual drive any longer, then run the Modify Install option and choose NOT to install the Disc Image Loader program.

I was trying to figure out the same problem and found this post @ the top of the Google search. Just opening Disc Image Loader and removing the emulated drive works like a charm. It was mounted last time i tried to burn a DVD. Thanks for the help!

I use the DVD-ROM Emulater Drive to "check run" images I burn to Hard Drive before using the "round, silver, shiny things".

This is particularly useful to check if I have been successful in copying commercial, often protected, CD/DVD ROMS.

Ooops.........shouldn't have mentioned that.

I use the emulator a lot for GFI data image files from CD and DVD ROMS to check if the auto run starts before burning to disc.

How do you play it back in Disc Copier?  I only see options to copy to another disk or image.  I am looking for a way to play back an image before I burn it.  I have a problem creating an emulated disk on my computer, so I need another way to do this/  Any advice would help.
