When editing video clips in My DVD edit, the video and native audio are very choppy for the selected clip.  This makes precise editing very difficult and time consuming. What is the cause of this and is there a solution?

What is the speed of your CPU?  How much free space on your hard drive? Have you defragged lately?

1.6GHZ Pentium M, 1GB RAM, 70 GB Hard Drive.  The drive is about half full.  I need to clean up and run a defrag.  Any other suggestions or do you think that cleaning up the drive will do the trick?

Your system is pretty much 'bottom end' - a couple of suggestions

1: Download, install and run either Lavasoft Adaware or Spybot S&D to check for any malware

2: Go to control panel, system, advanced and set for 'best performance'

3: kill off any running modules if you can (instant messengers and so on)

4: defrag always helps especially before doing any video work
If it ain't broke, fiddle with it until it breaks, then fiddle with it until you get it fixed
